Any 1st hand visits recently?

Postby swgap » Sat Jul 11, 2020 10:23 am

We are wondering about how many guests are there on weekdays vs weekends in the last couple of weeks and what the atmosphere is like right now. Disco the same? Afternoon Hot tub time? Late night hot tub time?

We are going in 3 weeks and promise to write a review when we get back.

Admin Note:

FYI - All of the Cancun and the Riviera Maya resorts(including Desire Pearl and RM) under the current pandemic restrictions, are limited to a maximum of 30% occupancy on any given day at this time

PS. there are already several trip reports from June posted in the RM trip report section

Interesting. I assume when we booked there were way more bookings than 30%. We just paid balance for our 8/7 trip so safe to assume we are ok for having a room / no issues?

Cokemann--There are 2 trip reports from nearly a month ago. I'm sure things are fluid there and changing by the week so I thought something more recent would be helpful.

On another note, the recent Tripadvisor reviews inexplicably have no mention at all of the virus or anything being remotely different at the resort. I've always been suspicious of those reviews and have always relied on this site for accurate reviews and updates.

We just returned (July 12-19) and it was wonderful. It was our first trip and we're already looking forward to going back. The resort, the food, and especially the incredible staff all exceeded our expectations. The fact that the crowd was smaller actually made it a lot of fun because everyone got to know almost everybody else there. It felt like we were all part of an intimate group of friends, rather than getting lost in a big crowd.

We met a lot of great people, some of which we had fun with in the playroom, at the jacuzzi, in bedrooms... well you get the point. Despite all those shenanigans, the thing at the top of my list is, oddly enough, the restaurant Suki. We were seriously impressed by how great Suki is. We ate at the hibachi table one night, and our chef was wonderful and made it so much fun. Another night we ate from the regular menu and WOW everything we tried (kung pao beef, goyza, salmon, aphrodisiac roll) was beyond fantastic. We eat out a lot, and are fortunate to live in an area that has a ton of great restaurants nearby, but if Suki was in our area we'd be there every week.

The only thing that we did not like is that the staff has to wear facemasks. We felt sorry for the people working outdoors in the heat while having to wear them. It also made interacting with waiters, bartenders, etc. frustrating at times; combining a strong accent with muffled speech through a mask made conversation difficult at times. I assume that it's a regulation for hospitality employees to wear them, and if so then hopefully Mexico will do away with that policy before our next visit.

Lastly, for anyone wondering about traveling at this time, it was a breeze. Lighter than usual traffic at airports made it quick and easy to sail through TSA lines, customs check, etc.
