First time going to Desire. Alot of questions???

Postby alswagg » Thu Oct 13, 2011 6:54 pm

We are going for the first time to Desire, the first week of Dec. We have been to Hedo several times in the past. We are looking for a nicer vacation spot, and hopefully Desire will fill the void.
'Are there transfers from the airport to the resort? Included?
How is the food and water?
What type of excursions are best?
Do we tip or not?
Thanks Al

If you use the forums SEARCH button at the top of the page you will find answers in many other posts to these and any other basic questions you may have.

Transfers are not included in the amount Desire charges you per day - some TA's do included complimentary transfer when you book thru them.

btw - you should post your dates in the Arriving Section of the forums in the Roll Call Dec '11 thread and get to know others that will be there at the same time as yourselves
Please use the forum links to book directly with Desire RM, Desire Pearl or the Desire Cruises.
This will help keep the forums online, economically self sustaining and Ad free for all to use

If you frequent Hedo 2, you'll be ecstatic with Desire. Probably never go back to Hedo.

Transfers are not included. You can arrange such on the Desire website, or Lomas Travel is mentioned frequently here, as are several others.

Food is great. Not 5-star, but very good. Closer to Grand Lido quality than Hedo. We've never had a problem drinking the water, but seldom do when we are there as we give preference to CC or Stoli.

NO excursions. Period. WHY book Desire and then leave the resort. If you're going to do some excursions, then book a few extra days in Cancun at some dull resort and go from there. Chitzen Itza is great. Coco Bongo is raved about (but we've not been there). Been to Sr. Frogs. OK, but just another spring break bar.

The Cat Cruise from Desire is the exception. We did go on it one time. It's a bit pricey (imo) at $130pp or something like that. But, we had a blast! Max of 7 couples. All from Desire. It was like an all day trip in the playroom, but on a brand new catamaran.

We tip. Most people do, I think. Do a search here and you'll read a lot about it. It is not Superclubs where tipping is supposedly not acceptable.

Biggest problem any couple has as a result of their first trip to Desire is finding a place in the budget for the return trips. You will return. We have. Over a dozen times. You'll find you can go an extra year with the old car. Take a shorter trip to Disney with the kids. Let the kids get a summer job to contribute to their tuition (it builds character). You get the idea....

Carpe diem!

The food is great, better than hedo2. More options also and always very tasty. Water is okay but we used the free bottled water in the mini-bar mostly.

Tipping is optional but appreciated from time-to-time. Don't overdo, but sometimes staff will go really far to make it very comfy for you. Awesome!

Personally we like to take excursions and did some very nice and fun ones last time in Desire. The best excursions are those when there's a "private" group from Desire going on an excursion. The mini-van gets loaded up with an awesome driver, a lot of Corona bottles and 6-8 sexy desire people!

Have fun and post when you're going. We're planning a return trip early 2012.

cheers!

We had the same questions as you guys six monhs ago and we are now 5 weeks away from out second trip. We had planned to catch a few excursions as we wanted to see the sites etc. We booked a trip to xcherta.. A great water park. The day came and we basicaly didn't want to leave the resort. We adamant prior to leaving that we were going to do some touristy things but were way too relaxed to leave. So my advise would be to wait until you arrive and spend a couple says and if you want to go then book it at the resort.
The exception would be a couples massage by Claudia. Search this site for info on that. Its s must do while at Desire. Not necessarily on your first trip but do put it on your bucket list.
We tipped and I think it always adds to the service. We budgeted 5 for the room, 5 for each meal and 5 for each bar a day including the bartender at the beach beds. And 5 to the attendand at the beds. The staff is so awesome they deserve it. And if we missed so.wome someday out service never decreased.

I don't know that tipping adds to the service, I think you would get terrific service no matter what. That said, we do tip because they really do just deserve it. There are some that we know from years and years that we do just tip upfront but the rest we tip as we go along. Tips are supposed to be included so I hope they do take good care of the staff and with the smiles and service we get and the longevity of most of the staff I think they do okay (for Mexico). Once you get there though, you know they deserve more :)
Now compare that to Hedo, where you don't get a drink if you haven't tipped enough.... at least that has been our experience. It was almost impossible to get a drink down at Delroy's after not having been there for a while. Desire is never like that, the staff is always hustling to take care of everyone which is what sets the resort apart. Can't wait until we are back there in 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!
