The only thing that makes made me nervous about the Yahoo groups is that they require you to submit a picture of you and your spouse and they post it so others can see you. While I understand why they want to do this, for us meeting some new people that will be there before we go is not worth the risk of having our picture on the web.
The various Yahoo group moderators differ in their membership requirements. I can only speak for myself, as the moderator for the Freaky Frigates group, which does not require pictures. However, I do require some proof of booking on or near the Freaky Frigates travel dates. This is to ensure the privacy of all the group members. Most members of the group appreciate this requirement. We do encourage couples to submit photos for ease of recognition when we arrive, but it is by no means required. Not all groups are the same, some are primarily Lifestyle while others (ours) are comprised of couples of differing interests. Contacting the various moderators, through this forum, is recommended to determine the focus of the various groups out there. As a couple who's first 3 trips were without a group, we highly recommend, especially for newbies, that they go with a group. As already noted, doing so allows new couples to ask, before arriving, the myriad questions about all aspects of the upcoming visit e.g.; theme nights, daily routine, off resort visits, tipping, etc.
