Mexican newbies

Postby gessle00 » Sun Sep 21, 2014 5:17 am

Ok, here's the deal, we are mexican, newbies, and in our early 30's, booked for just 3 nights, nov 15-18, the wife is concerned about not being able to meet people that speak spanish (she understands english, but shy speaker). We are not in the lifestyle, going with an open mind but more into each other. Will it be difficult to make friends with people in the resort? Will americans/canadians/brithish look the other way as soon as they learn we are mexican? we are not that fit but I think we are ok for everybodies standards. We Are excited about theme nights (got thewife excited about it, looking for schoolgilr customs and all) but still a little nervous about how much english speakears will react to us. Do you think we'll be getting the full 'Desire experience' even though most of the guests are english speakers? should we only look for spanish speakers? what is the percentage of them anyway? or will it be a total failure? We have been to the cancun area about 15 times before but have never had a problem keeping to ourselves since it wasn't a concern meeting people before. This time we want to meet some nice couples, how should we handle ourselves at desire?

Wow, you certainly have mastered "typing in English"! LOL

We should all apologize to you for visiting your country and not being able to speak your language. My wife and I are working on our Spanish as much as we can and are even struggling through using Rosetta Stone ( not an endorsement).
Unfortunately it more often turns into "Spanglish". I wont even embarrass myself by trying to type in Spanish.

A smile and Hola! is always a great start. I suggest you offer a few lessons to us mono lingual invaders. Perhaps an ice breaker at the hot tub could be getting everyone to know the Spanish names for body parts or sex acts and using your lovely wife as an assistant! Take the lead and many will follow!

Lifestyle people are very open, friendly and non judgmental.
Have fun :D

As playa states above, we are in your country so you have nothing to worry about. Those of us who visit Desire love the freedom of being open and embracing the diversity in the people that visit. My wife is from the midwest and loves latin men and the culture, I speak fluent Spanish and enjoy speaking with guests from all over central and south America and of course MX.

Go with an open mind, be confident, have no expectations and you'll have a great time!

gessle00 :
As a Mexican couple who have been in Desire several times from 2003, we can confirm Playalovers and Edddieandjojo are the typical English speakers you'll find at Desire. Great people who understand THEY are the visitors and we Mexican are in our country. Of course there are exceptions (few, luckily) who think they travel with their country in their luggage and feel all the resort should turn in a kind of American territory.

I'll continue in Spanish.

No puedo esperar a volver!

Si tienen mas dudas, no dudes en escribirme.

Hello gessle00,

We are also Mexicans and we went to DRM last october and have already booked for November 22-26 (we would´ve loved to meet you there as my wife´s english is not very good, but unfortunately our trips don´t overlap).

Well, don´t worry that your wife is not very fluent in english. An hour after we arrived we where already mingling with the crowd regardless of what language they spoke or where they where from. We also aren´t lifestylers (well, kind of) but everyone was very nice and open with us. It helped a lot that we had already made a few friends we met in this forum and a Yahoo! Group. Make sure you present yourselves in the November Roll Call and post the dates you´ll be at Desire so you can begin breaking the ice with the people who are vacationing same time as you.

Now is spanish:

:US

Thanks everybody for your responses, I hope everything goes well in our trip, I guess our biggest issue is that my wife gets really nervous when dealing with english speakers, but I have promised to help her as much as possible. We usually don't make many friends while going to Riviera since our main purpose is to get a few good days of rest but we thought that the concept of Desire is nothing like we know and we should at least give us the opportunity to try to meet more people and enjoy this trip in a different way.
