What's the number to give out in case of Emergencies? We are telling people we are going to Azul but still want to give a contact number.

You can always use your cell phone - unless you're my parents, in which case you own a cell phone but never turn it on!

We are going to try using Viber (free app) with the resort wifi. Have heard good things about it from some foreign travelers. It costs nothing so long as you have wifi. I don't know if wifi is strong throughout resort, but had decent reception in the past.

Another approach is possible for peace of mind.... Texts (on our Verizon plan) are five cents to receive/read and fifty cents to send. If there is an emergency you can start out with texting and then use phone. The rate on our plan for calls to US from Mexico is $2.99 / minute.

Better yet for touching base with family, if you are iPhone users and message with another iPhone user (or iPad to iPhone, etc) those messages are no charge. Just be sure you are using a BLUE highlighted email address, not a GREEN phone number (indicating a non-Apple user). I noticed recently if you group text with a mix of iPhone and Android users the message defaults to green for all.

BTW, wondering if you can also Face Time with no charge. Anyone know if that is the case?

You can always turn your iPhone's cell off and try with the resort's wifi.

Skype is your friend. They will give you the resort phone number, but they ask that it be kept very private. Nobody (I hope!) would post the number here, as that would compromise the system and make a headache for all of us, including the great people at Desire that go to the trouble of having a discreet (-ish) number for emergencies.
