I have worn my share of over the top "costumes" and people remember you more and give you credit rather than making you feel awkward. This from a guy that wore a lime green tutu along, with a friend who is a federal agent, for a glow night party. You may never see these people again!
The last time we went for Christmas, I entered the costume competition and I think I was one of the only guys. I had on dressy Christmas-sy clothes, but attached to my belt on the front I had a large, intricately wrapped package with strategic bows on the head and against the base on the bottom. The tag read "From God, To Women". When the staff read that out loud, there were actually maybe 10 or so people that booed or were otherwise disparaging. I was shocked to see that at Desire; I've never seen or heard anything negative like that before or since. But I honestly don't give a f**k, because anybody that lame with that big a stick up their ass is free to stay away from us 100% of the time. Most people thought it was hilarious and appreciated the silliness.
Sadly, most men don't participate in the theme nights. I have no idea why, because even token participation adds a lot to the experience for everyone. The couples that appreciate the sport and humor in how far we take the theme nights are exactly the people we want to meet at Desire anyway.
