Coconut oil

Postby D&H » Fri Apr 21, 2017 11:49 am

I (the misses) have something I'd like to see happen for D (my mister) on our trip. I'll need coconut oil. Is there a chance I can get some at the resort? Or should I try to bring some? We're only flying with a personal item sized bag each, so luggage space will be filled quickly. And since at room temp coconut oil is a solid, I wouldn't have to include it in my liquids bag, right?

You are best to bring your own coconut oil, btw - as far as the airlines(TSA) are concerned, it( coconut oil) still counts as a liquid !

In order to answer this question appropriately we will need to know, in painstaking detail, exactly what you have planned, would hate to steer you wrong ;)

Cokemann, thanks for the info. We don't fly much. But that's slowly changing! And in order to assist with my query...I would LOVE to get him on a jacuzzi bed, blindfold him, and have lots of hands massaging him. I say that coconut oil is required because it's the perfect viscosity and doesn't have an offensive taste, if it should happen to get in a mouth by chance...

You can pack multiple 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) bottles/jars of coconut oil along with any other 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) liquid containers in your carry on, as long as they all fit into a 1quart zip lock bag (FYI - I usually double bag the liquids just to be safe !) btw - even a single 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) bottle/jar of coconut oil goes a long way..... ;)

We've always taken coconut oil since our first trip. Just to make sure it doesn't go solid we mix it 2 parts coconut oil to 1 part sunflower oil. Always come back with plent, even after spreading it around among couples. A little goes a long way!

We like the solid better than the liquid form. Though we do take a larger jar in our checked bags, also take a tube in carry-ons. We have several of the empty tubes you can buy at most department stores that we fill ourselves. Just melt in the microwave in a measuring cup and pour into the tube. It will harden again as it cools.

I purchase organic unrefined coconut oil and it's always smooth with a consistent texture. When I use it as a base for lotions, I mix it with the kitchen aid stand mixer, and it gets a light, fluffy consistency. Those grains or crystals form I think when there's a lot of temperature change. You can melt the oil all the way, then let it cool and solidify again, and the crystals should be gone.
