Disco Music - Specific questions

Postby espmanhattan » Mon Nov 15, 2010 9:57 pm

If this has been asked before we apologize but we are headed down in March and we believe that the music at events make or break the vibe of the night and we are both into music - all kinds and was curious at EXACTLY what is played at the disco (and other places like the pool areas).

Are the songs current?
What specifically do they play, artists?
Do hey play cool remixes of songs?
Is it a good mix?
Do they play the same four songs over and over?
Can you bring a mix CD and they will play it?
Do they take requests?
Is it a good volume so you can enjoy?

Many thanks!

We love music too and I happily report it has improved over the last couple of years. Here is our observations of an "average" night:

Are the songs current? 60% top 40,20% classic rock,20% latin Salsa type
What specifically do they play, artists? See above
Do hey play cool remixes of songs? Yes,Most top 40 are dance remixes
Is it a good mix? All depends on the DJ working that night. We have heard great mixes, and have heard crap ones too.
Do they play the same four songs over and over? They have on some of our prior trips, but that is usually due to constant requests for a particular song, by the crowd thats there. ie- Our 3rd trip, we must have heard "all summer long" kid rock 20 times throughout the week.
Can you bring a mix CD and they will play it? No - They used to be ok with that, but have stopped allowing it since the remodel of last year.
Do they take requests? Yes - weather they play it or not depends on the songs relevance to the club or the size of the tip. LOL
Is it a good volume so you can enjoy? Definitley Club loud. If you want to talk to the person next to you. Either yell in their ear or move to the patio.

Pool area music is background type of top 40 or chill lounge. Not too loud.

Beach beds and Jacuzzi lounge is Chill lounge/"Mood" music. Again, not overly loud.

Hope that helps

The music seems to follow a consistent format nightly. It starts out with current dance music for an hour or so, then a period of oldies, then latin. Once in a while they will throw in something different that will pretty much clear the floor. As far as getting them to play requests, not so much. I used to be pretty successful at getting them to play a few songs a night that I would request. With the current DJ not so much. I've had to resort to enlisting Carlos to plead for me once the place clears out a bit. I suppose its because I tend to ask for "pole dancing" songs that most people don't want to dance to :)

What are some of the "current" songs and what do you consider some "oldies"? We wonder why Desire doesn't play more slower songs that couples can dance (bump, grind and dirty dance) to.

What now is considered "top 40" and 'classic rock'?

Also, what are "pole dancing" songs?

I have a feeling during the week we are there with the European group we are going to get a lot of techno crap.

A few current songs they are playing today are I've gotta a feeling, Sexy Bitch, Evacuate the dancefloor.

When i say oldies in regard to dance music, I guess I basically mean any disco.

Good pole dancing music can be more difficult to dance to as it has a different beat than the average club music. Either slower and (A little bit more, by Tony C and the truth) or more frenetic like Crazy Bitch.

I have yet to suffer through techno music at Desire, I am hoping my luck holds!

Hmmm, guess I gotta get out more or at least turn on the radio or watch some music awards show. Never heard of the songs you mentioned.

Will have to wait til next week to figure it all out - we may be spending more time at the jacuzzi, which is not a bad thing.

We were at Desire towards the end of August, and they allowed a couple to play their Ipod tunes on numerous nights..at the Jacuzzi that is!

I will have my ipod at the cuzzi, and I've got a nice romantic playlist! Just let me know if no one is into it and it is off!

Since there is music piped in at the jacuzzi (I think) perhaps you could ask before turning your tunes on? Just a thought.

Disco Music

Postby nukesul » Fri Apr 01, 2011 6:32 pm

A Trip Advisor reviewer described Desire's disco music as all techno rap which causes people to leave after an hour or so. Posts on this forum are a year or so old, but indicate the music is more a mixture with top 40 quite common. Can someone please clarify?

It is a little bit of everything, Techno, salsa, mergue, VanMorrison type music. And you can always make a request. Well the music did not make me leave early.

Just returned from a 5 night stay at Desire, & the only thing about the entire trip was disappointing was the music at the disco. Given the sexual atmosphere of the resort, we were surprised that they did not play some slower songs so you could get "up close & personal" with your partner. We are not into all the techno music and usually left after an hour. Plus it sounded like a lot of repeat songs each night. Just our opinion.

We agree with you completely, BVandGV. We have always wondered why they don't play the slower songs at the disco. And yes, they did seem to play the some of the same songs every night.

On one of our trips they play "Put A Ring on It" several times during the night - all week.

Thank goodness the playroom is soundproof and we can't hear the music from the disco in there. It's a great little get-a-way place.

Just returned from Desire a week ago.For the first couple of nights the Disco was OK but at the end everything is repeating. It's odd at times ;imagine dancing techno music in lingerie or latino in leather outfit - no match at all.As somebody else was suggesting they should just get satellite radio.
Around 1pm there was almost nobody in.
