The Orbitz prices include air fare. We booked our October 2013 trip using Orbitz last January, before the advent of 'Standard' rooms. We received three invoices for our trip. Two of the invoices were from United for air fare from Chicago to Cancun for $438 each which was the prevailing fare at the time; one to Orbitz for $2,407 (we booked 8 nights in GV at RM).

The one invoice to Orbitz for $2,407 was that for the stay at Desire? If so that comes to $300.88 per night, much cheaper than the going rate during January.

When one of the big online travel agencies, Orbitz, Hotels, etc. are offering a blanket sale such as 5%, 10% or 15% off, I have tried getting pricing for room only (no airfare) they discount the room and it appears that you are able to book at the discounted rate. If you do receive a cheaper rate than what Desire is offering, what happens? I am assuming they would still honor the reservation when you showed up.

It is very difficult to say exactly what invoice is for the stay at Desire, although the two invoices for air travel where exactly the same as the prevailing price at the airline's site.

For the most part, my only goal is to get the most bang for my buck. I have found that if I combine my air travel with booking Desire, my total vacation cost is about $650 cheaper than if I booked the air separate from booking Desire. BTW, the current Orbitz package price from Chicago for arriving January 18, 2014 and departing January 25 (7 nights) is $3,386 total. The price for only the room using Desire's site is $3,290.

If you have a confirmed reservation, then Desire will honor it. Last year we booked at package through Cheap Caribbean, because at the time, they were the least expensive. Our glasses of champagne were waiting for us upon are arrival. :)

We booked with Orbitz last night for flight and hotel...and the price is very low compared to others..they also send a coupn for 20% off of your hotel when you book your flight..so here is what we did:

> Booked the flight with CheapTickets(Orbitz's sister company) - price is $50 lower than Orbitz's.
> Got the unique cupon code to use against the hotel for a 20% off.
> Applied the cupon and made reservation for DRM and the got 20% off plus free cancellation.

I can confidently say that the price we got the awesome compared to as many 20 travel sites including Desires website.

I would also suggest calling them rather than booking online - sometimes they can give you a far better price than what you see online. They always insist that they get the same prices as online..but sometimes thats B/S and they could get much cheaper prices.

These prices through Orbitz are BETTER than the "XXXX" prices we get as members.

Dandc,

We also booked our trip through Orbitz, and found the prices to be far better that we had seen anywhere else (even Castaways Travel) when booking the hotel and airfare together. I'm sure the savings were all from a reduction to a cost of the air travel. However, I hadn't heard of booking through Cheaptickets, and then booking just the hotel through Orbitz and getting 20% off. That's a nice savings! We'll definitely keep that in mind for the future.
