New fee to visit from RM to pearl or visa versa

We were at Pearl in December, went to DRM one day. Had lunch, a bottle of wine and enjoyed the pool and hi tub. No charge whatsoever! Even free towels at the pool.

From the FAQ section of the RM website :

DO YOU ALLOW DAY OR NIGHT PASSES?
Desire is a clothing optional resort for couples only that grants you an initimate holiday, but if you are already staying in one of our Desire Resorts, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a Day Pass at either Desire Riviera Maya or Desire Pearl at your convenience for $ 150 USD per couple.


I took it to read one of the OTHER Original Resorts properties in the Cancun area, but with the wording, "if you are already staying in one of our Desire Resorts" does seem to indicate either Pearl or RM given that they are the only two "Desire" resorts . . .

I certainly hope this is not the case in September with the renovation special..............the rates section of the site indicates "...... In addition, we will offer free transportation to Desire Pearl from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. so that our guests can have their fantasy of enjoying both Desires all at once come true......" I think some of those (us) who have booked already will be quite upset to be offered free transportation but required to pay $150 for a day pass

Unfortunately, I confirmed this with management. It's a bullshit idea designed to squeeze more dollars out of us. We need to write and protest to management.

That is absurd! It is no additional cost for the resort for me to visit the other resort. What I am not consuming at one, I will be at the other. It was nice having the option of going over for the day to visit. Some of the larger resorts such as Sandals and Riu's have the stay at one, enjoy the others. I can say that I would never pay that fee over and above the high price of staying at the resort already. Unless they want to deter people from going back and forth.

Darn it, I was afraid the rumor was correct. I will write my letter tomorrow morning. I urge all others who feel its wrong and degrades the experience to write as well. You may not be going to desire right away but you will eventually....if the new policy gets a bunch of negative attention right away they might reconsider.

If you want to email and voice your displeasure, I would suggest these two email addys - I know complaints get passed upwards if there are a lot of the same thing

Yes, I confirmed this as well, the fee works both ways....staying at either resort and wanting to visit the other for the day or night is $150 US.

I will definitely be contacting Original Resorts about the fee. There was mention of a petition to be sent to them regarding our displeasure over this fee. I would be happy to participate if one is circulated. Beyond the extra money gained, is this an attempt to raise attendance at Pearl? I have heard that there is always higher attendance at RM with many people taking day trips to Pearl.

Mods, any chance you can move this to the General Desire chatter subsection....reason being that people going to Pearl may not see it here.

I have emailed them and asked them to reconsider the fee siting how it is bad for the customer and for Desire. Really, only a handful of people are going to pay $150 to go to the other resort, you stand to make far more in people seeing the other resort and deciding to book a vacation there.

I was always concerned what will be their next move to grab more money after they closed DLC.
Here it comes... as the fees were not increased enough last year.

Next move we will have to pay $5 dollars for the bracelets and $30 for the nightly shows

Anyone know if the $150 is per person or per couple ? We are making our first trip to Pearl this June and wanted to check out RM while there. Doesn't look like that's going to happen now. Sorry, Not going to support someones greediness. Does not seem like they could justify that cost.
