Disco closed (unverified)

Postby Powderfinger » Fri Feb 05, 2010 9:24 pm

It's been reported on the February Yahoo group from a current guest that they closed the disco yesterday, 2/4, for (a much needed) renovation, with an estimated re-opening not entirely certain.........

The actual posting:

"Some news from desire. Last night they closed the disco for renovation, this is
going to last 5 weeks. They are set to renovate the disco and reopen May 1st.

We were disappointed because the disco is one of our favorite parts of desire.
They built a covered stage off of the lobby bar for the DJ to set up his
equipment. It was OK last night but still not the same. My only concern is
where will ppl go if it rains? For example it is raining this afternoon so all
the couch cushions will be wet tonight. So just a heads up for y'all arriving
this month!

Besides that, everything else here is great. They just debuted a new menu at
suki this week that looks delish!"

We had a text message from our friends who arrived there yesterday that mentioned that the Disco was closed for reno's. They had one of the ground floor rooms near the lobby and mentioned that the music was very easily heard (ie. hard to sleep) until around 02:00 ish. They were able to move rooms this morning.

I guess they had to do it sometime. Sucks to be those who are there now and weren't given a "head's up" and at least the resort has come up with some alternative but ... maybe the resort will compensate them in some way.

I'm sure those who are there will still enjoy their vacation!

Thanks for the info.

Well, that really sucks for everyone going in march/april. (like us)

We'll still have fun on our first trip to desire, we're sure about that

I'm a little curious on the math. 5 weeks from early Feb would be mid march correct ? May 1st seems like a long time (82 days from today. our arrival date :D )to complete that reno. That would be 11 1/2 weeks right ? Just sayin' .......

Perhaps a little clarification from Mia's replacement (Hello...knock knock  ) would be helpful.

The disco is one of our favorite parts of going to Desire and we would be upset if it was closed during our stay. We do agree though, that this has been a long time coming and are happy the resort is upgrading continually lately.

BTW - what about the playroom ? is that being reno'd too ? We hope so ! Is there an alternate play area being offered ?

Sure would be ice if Desire management would use the news area in these forums specifically set up for them to announce news like this and let people know what to expect.

Playroom

Postby desire512 » Sat Feb 06, 2010 11:33 am

Is the playroom also closed? Is there another alternative other than the jacuzzi beds?

We will be arriving for the LL takeover on March 5. we would hope that the disco renovation would be done by then. we know that mexican time is much slower than US time but 5 weeks to renovate such a small space seems like an awful long time.

We will be extremely upset if the disco and playroom are not open. :x

I am at work (leaving in a few minutes). We head to the airport tonight and are arriving tomorrow. I am sitting here trying to figure out how to tell Heather. She loves the disco and it is always one of the best parts of the trip. Ugh, well I am sure we will have a blast anyways, but.......

I can't imagine that they would be doing reno's when they are expecting a "takeover". I'm thinking that whoever posted May 1st actually meant March 1 - since that's when there is a group coming.

Who really believed they would get the jacuzzi reno'd in a week? Not me.

The latest report:

"Good news!
Last night they debuted the new 'temporary' disco, which is actually in the
"tentazione" palapa, next to the pool where lunch is served.
We thought they were going to keep it in the lobby but this is the solution for
the next five weeks. It actually works pretty well. They put a lighted dance
floor down, and added xmas lights, the sound system is good too. They move out
the tables and replace them w/some cocktail tables, and the bar works just fine.
Another good thing is the smokers don't have to be segregated anymore. Some of
us were requesting last night that they turn the pool lights on, hopefully they
will do that tonight.
So anyways, i think the makeshift disco won't disappoint. I heard they set up a
makshift 'playroom' tent upstairs off the jacuzzi, but we didn't check it out
yet"
