We just returned (July 12-19) and it was wonderful. It was our first trip and we're already looking forward to going back. The resort, the food, and especially the incredible staff all exceeded our expectations. The fact that the crowd was smaller actually made it a lot of fun because everyone got to know almost everybody else there. It felt like we were all part of an intimate group of friends, rather than getting lost in a big crowd.
We met a lot of great people, some of which we had fun with in the playroom, at the jacuzzi, in bedrooms... well you get the point. Despite all those shenanigans, the thing at the top of my list is, oddly enough, the restaurant Suki. We were seriously impressed by how great Suki is. We ate at the hibachi table one night, and our chef was wonderful and made it so much fun. Another night we ate from the regular menu and WOW everything we tried (kung pao beef, goyza, salmon, aphrodisiac roll) was beyond fantastic. We eat out a lot, and are fortunate to live in an area that has a ton of great restaurants nearby, but if Suki was in our area we'd be there every week.
The only thing that we did not like is that the staff has to wear facemasks. We felt sorry for the people working outdoors in the heat while having to wear them. It also made interacting with waiters, bartenders, etc. frustrating at times; combining a strong accent with muffled speech through a mask made conversation difficult at times. I assume that it's a regulation for hospitality employees to wear them, and if so then hopefully Mexico will do away with that policy before our next visit.
Lastly, for anyone wondering about traveling at this time, it was a breeze. Lighter than usual traffic at airports made it quick and easy to sail through TSA lines, customs check, etc.
