Clothing optional cruises for couples

Postby Rusty » Mon Mar 29, 2010 7:38 am

We will be there at the end of APR 22nd – 29th and are wondering if any one can tell us about the "private clothing optional cruises for couples only". I have seen boats going past the resort, but have not noticed any or any coming into the resort or for that matter anyone talking about this Cruise / I guess this would be a Pick up and drop back and dependant on numbers / fees etc any info about costs who runs this would be good

Thanks

This option exists, it is basically a private day charter but will require you to get a minimum number of couples together in order to book the charter ( the minimum is usually around 12 couples). The couples will have to pay a deposit in advance to reserve the charter and pay the balance on the day of the cruise.

There are currently two choices, both choices do require a minimum number of couples and both include transfers, all drinks and lunch. Price for either starts at approximately $180 per couple.

- one cruise choice which leaves out of the docks in Cancun near Temptations resort, is a all day sail with a set activity program for the day. Transportation to and from Desire is included(40 min each way) and you will be gone from the resort from about 8:30am until about 7pm it includes all booze, soft drinks, lunch, a shopping trip on Isla Mujeres and snorkeling. Your group can arrange this charter through the activities desk at Desire

- the other cruise option is more free form and customizable in terms of length and what the days schedule will be. It includes all booze, soft drinks, lunch and snorkeling. This cruise leaves from a marina just south of Puerto Moreleos(10 min south). Transportation to the marina is provided and after the cruise they anchor just off shore at Desire and shuttle you back to the Desire beach by a motor boat - Your group can arrange this charter through Mike and Chrissy at http://www.baresailing.com/

We have done both cruises and for our group tend to prefer the second option because it provides all the fun but is more customizable for the group and takes less total time away from the resort.

Russty - FYI - if it was Desire staff or the tour person at Desire(who, btw is not part of the Desire staff) that approached you re the cruise - it was definitely not for the BareSailng option, Desire does not promote them.

We went on the Baresailing cruise last Saturday. This was organized by another couple in our group and there were probably a dozen couples on the boat.

We were picked up at Desire at 9:30 in the morning and driven (about 15 minutes) to the marina which was in Puerto Morelos. Were all allowed to get naked after the cameraman left the harbor and we headed south for about 1 1/2 hours. The boat docked and we were allowed to snorkel and do some swimming.

The boat had a crew of 3 and they provided drinks and some snacks in addition to their sailor duties. The original plan was to drop us off at the beach at Desire but due to some time conflicts we went back to the marina and took vans back to the resort.

We would urge anyone that considers this trip to protect themselves against seasickness. While the ride out was fine, the return trip was a bit choppy and there is nothing sexy about vomiting with no relief in sight especially with a hangover from the previous night. Don't ask me how I know.

Also, try to limit the number of couples on board. We had about 12 which made laying out on the deck a tight fit. 8 might be a better limit.

This is why we don't go out on those trips anymore. My wife has a tendency to get motion sick at times and ,even though we LOVE the snorkelling, the length of time away is just too long. If there was a 1-2 hour excursion that departed the beach at Desire, we would probably be all over it ! I've looked but alas........

Also, the thought of giving up almost the whole day of being at the resort isn't that appealing to us. I'm not missing out on hottub time for anything

Steve,
Why not ask the management at Puerto Morelos Marina if there is anyone operating from there who might be prepared to organise an excursion, with a Desire pick-up, just for a couple of hours?
A two hour charter is better for the boat owner than no business at all.
Or if you just want to snorkel there are motor boats around that will put on a private charter for you and come and pick you up if you want.
All privately arranged trips are more expensive, though; you might think of putting a group together to spread the cost.

True enough Oldseadog, Maybe business isn't so "brisk" these days that they would turn down a short excursion like they have in the past. I may look into it again. Thanks

Steve - for our YNOTs group we have used Mike and Chrissy at Baresailing - since we essentially charter the boat for the group we decide the days schedule and how long we want to be out on the sail - they are very accommodating but the price remains the same whether it is a 3 hour sail or a 5 hour sail
