Nudity around the resort

Postby sand111 » Wed Mar 31, 2010 10:25 am

Hi we are planning on going in September for our first time. We would like to no if you can walk around the resort nude or is it only at the beach and pool areas.

The front lobby is a no-no area for nudity and the restaurants are the same. Other than that, you may encounter it anywhere else.
Most people usually throw on a pair of shorts/coverup if they are walking around, but it is optional and not frowned upon if you dont.

Yes. But only in front of Desire.

At each end of the property, signs are posted for people who are walking the beach (typically coming from other resorts), that they may encounter nudity in front of Desire. Last Sept when we were there, we had 2 fun loving dudes who would be sitting (nude) in lounge chairs on the beach, and when people walked by with clothes on, they would lift their legs, spread 'em, and yell . . "whoop -- whoop". You had to be there . . . but it was funny as hell. A typical response was either laughter, or . . ."what the hell is the name of this place? -- because we want to come back here next visit." LOL

So (at least during our visit), nudity is pretty much the norm throughout the resort including the beach. As noted above, the primary exceptions are the restaurants, the lobby, and the workout facility.

We took our first trip to Desire Cancun last November. After having read all the rules and regs, we thought, "Well, okay. We know where we can and can't be naked".

Seems that not everyone read the same rules and regs we did.

While sitting at the lobby bar on our first morning, enjoying a cup of coffee, we saw numerous folks wander around the lobby / bar area naked. We also saw it at the pool, through-out the grounds and even going to the pool-side cafe for lunch. Didn't matter what time of day it was.

As for nude at the beach, yes, just in front of the resort itself is where you are "allowed" to be nude, (and you are also not supposed to engage in any sexual activities on the beach beds as well) but those rules don't seem to apply to all folks. The walk from end to end of the beach in front of Desire takes about 10 minutes max. That is, if you are just walking. There is the bar you have to stop at, the beach beds you have to stop at and chat with other folks, and there's a volley-ball game you may want to join in on.

We looked and looked for the signs on either end of the beach that actually say something about the nudity but we couldn't find them.

I guess we will have to go back and search them out again!

As for those two guys doing the "Whoop Whoop" - I guess you really did have to be there. My thoughts are that those are the kind of folks who will be reason for the "clothing optional on the beach rule" to be taken away and spoil it for the rest of us who truly want to enjoy the beach textile free.

Miranda,

Those signs you mention were taken out/destroyed by the hurricane that passed offshore in early November I believe. That is why you couldn't find them. You must have arrived right after ? The waves were so bad that they were hitting the upper concrete walls that separate the beach from the grounds of the resort. They also lost a bank of 4 swinging beach beds and that is when the major beach erosion occured that they are still trying to deal with :(

Miranda -- re: the "whoop/whoop" guys --- they were pretty discerning re: who they did it with--- e.g., if kids were in the group, they didn't do it, etc. The responses they were getting from people was fun and laughter. But you might be right. --- The signs were there last Sept. Maybe somebody took them home for a souvenir.

Last 2 trips (2007 and 2008) pretty much nude throughout the resort (lobby check in area excluded), but depends on the groups that are there. Both times we were there even the lunch buffet was topless/nude/net only. See thru is OK at all the restaurants. Enjoy. :D

Just returned...and yes, nudity is allowed throughout the resort except in the lobby and in the restaurants. Topless is ok at the lunch buffet. You do see occasional full nudity in the lunch area, but that's the exception.

We walked to the far end of the beach area (away from the volleyball court) to take some pictures and the sign warning folks coming from other resorts was replaced on the portion of the fence that is still up (guarding the rooms). The fence by the beach beds is gone...so that makes the sign a bit harder to find.

This was our third year, and unfortunately, the beach seems to get smaller every year. Water comes right up to beach beds at high tide. So when the clothed folks are walking the resort, they are right up near the beach beds. I fear that may trigger new rules if they can't expand the beach.
