We've been to Desire twice pre-Covid...considering going now...what is the differencies on the resort pre-Covid and now? Do you have to wear masks? Is disco indoors functioning?

We've been to Desire several times pre-COVID and a few times post.

In March 2021, we went to Desire Pearl. Only needed masks during check in and for the COVID test. All staff members wore masks, even the Playmakers. The buffet was inconvenient in that guests were not able to look around and pick what they wanted; you had to walk with a server and tell them what you wanted.

In July 2021, we went to Desire RM Again, only needed masks during check in and the COVID test. The buffet was back to normal and guests were walking around freely. I can't think of any other differences.

Oh and The Art of Touch workshops with Richard and Lauren are no longer offered.

Based on their traffic light system and Quintana Roo being in Yellow the requirements there are the same as at home for us (we are from Calgary)

At both Pearl and DRM it is business as usual except the staff have masks on.

You can take your mask off when you leave the airport terminal and put it back on when you enter to leave.

If you venture outside the resort you will need a mask and some places will temperature check you.

Our last trip in August we extended our stay (not at desire) and it was a different experience, you needed a mask indoors no different than at home.

we visited Pearl in late July this year. The only sign of anything covid was having to wear a mask when you initially check in and when you get your covid test. Sadly the playmakers all wore masks even in the pool but guests don't wear them on site. Every other member of staff do at all times.

The only buffet in the restaurants was in Aphrodite at breakfast and lunch as well as the pizza stand. Other than that, all food is now ordered off the menu, so you are shown to your table and order there.

Still a wonderful place to go, jacuzzi and pool still as much fun and plenty of interaction between guests. If it wasn't for the staff masks, you wouldn't think covid had happened!!

Yes, the indoors disco is functioning and the shows take place according to the schedule but as you would expect, all the performers wear masks..sexy ones though, matching their outfits :D . We went to Pearl in September.
The playmakers nowadays don't have to wear masks in the water during the water activities as long as they practice social distancing so I guess that's the only difference comparing to a couple of months ago.

We’re at Pearl now. When we first got here, a couple told us their tests barely touched the inside of their noses (implying it wasn’t a serious test). We had our tests this morning. It was a legit test! They didn’t quite touch gray matter, but it was definitely NOT a mere swipe. I had watery eyes as a result of the dedicated swabbing.

We have not heard of any guests testing positive. As it comes up in conversation, everyone we have talked to has been vaccinated. It’s not something we specifically ask others about, but as you might imagine, testing and vaccination comes up in conversation often, particularly with soon-departing guests being tested every day.

We were at DRM in July and there were multiple couples who tested positive during our stay.

Thanks for the latest info on this issue. I think this covid issue is evolving from where it was 4-5 months ago at Desire and throughout the Mayan Riviera. Though never to be considered totally 'safe' as it once was 2 years ago, the Mayan Riviera has the highest rate of vaccinations in Mexico. So being cautious I believe is the key for a while to come. If you run into a Canadian couple down there enjoying the hot Mexican sun (while every one else here is shoveling snow), in order to board a plane to fly there, we have to be double vaxxed to fly. Latest indications in Canada is they are looking at dropping the pre return to Canada PCR testing because of the new double vax to fly and the very low rate of positive test vs the needless extra costs of hyper vigilant requirement currently in place. It can't last forever.
