Covid Situation & Testing ?

Postby NewCouple041723 » Thu Jan 27, 2022 4:22 pm

Can someone please comment on the Covid situation at the resort. Please explain the process to return back to the USA. I believe a Covid test is required? How many days prior to the flight does that need to be done? Is it done at the resort? Anyone know the positivity rate and what happens if it is positive? I'm hoping by June many of the regulations will be lifted. These rules have prevented us from going for 2 years now.

By no means comprehensive, here are my own mental notes from various sources. (To the board: if I am in error on any of this, my apologies and please feel to correct me:

1) Mexico does not require Covid credentals for entry TO the country. The U.S. does not require Covid testing to leave the States.

2) Am not sure if Pearl requires, say, temp-taking before allowed on the premises

3) Covid testing is available at the resort for a fee ($40??) and a negative test is required before any return flight. (A window of a couple of days, test to flight...or so I have read.)

4) If either of you tests positive prior to return, the options mentioned in various posts here are to either quarantine/isolate at Pearl -- spartan style -- for $300 per day per couple...or stay at a cheaper area lodging for less. (Not sure if those other venues screen their new visitors for Covid. Concerning if they don't, imo.)

5) As one poster suggested, It would seem wise -- and cost-saving -- to get tested just before you leave FOR Mexico. Better to have to cancel the trip altogether than to find out after your visit that you have/had Covid and can't leave Mexico for the return. We are planning to be tested 5 days before departure in March. We are told results are e-mailed within 24 hrs.

Other than that, don't forget the sun screen and tryyyy to have a good time :US.

Was just there.

No test to get into Mexico but you must test within 24 hours of your flight to return home. And have a negative result.

Cost was $30 each, charged to a credit card only.

Desire will put you up as a couple or as a single female only. No single male can stay in a room alone (meaning if the male tests positive and the female wants to leave to Q, the male can’t stay alone). I don’t know how much they’ll charge to extend your stay. You’re free to leave if you test positive and stay elsewhere. We had friends do that.

Suggest taking some tests with you so you can test and know when you’re negative to be able to leave (if positive).

They no longer take temps upon arrival.

Small correction on the timing of the test. To get into the US for example - flight leaves CUN at 1800 on Tuesday for the USA. Your test must be done no earlier than the day before so you can test anytime on the Monday. There is no hour restriction. For Canada you need to test within 72 hours before the direct flight into Canada.
If you have had COVID you don’t need to test. For the US you need proof that you had it between 15 and 90 days before your flight and a doctors note saying you are fit to fly. For Canada I believe it is between 15 and 180 days.

Thank you for sharing that information. I'm really hoping by June some of these restrictions are lifted.

From a travel article online dated Saturday, 2/5/22. Maybe good news for the soon-to-visit:

The governor of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo has announced that beginning Sunday, February 7, the alert level for the popular destination of Cancun will drop to ‘yellow’ in a big boost to tourism to the city.

Mexico uses an epidemiological traffic light system to gauge its COVID-19 infection rates, with green being the best, followed by yellow, orange and, finally, red.

We went last summer, and the testing was free and they didn’t even seem to care about it. I had to ask them for my results before we left, and I was told then that nobody had ever failed. From reading the posts, that looks to have changed.

Also, for any of the Southern California people, just fly out of Tijuana. The CBX is easy and fast and since you are flying domestically, no test is required currently. You don’t need any form or test to cross at the CBX.

Is there a testing requirement to leave Desire or Mexico?

No, there is not. The only requirement is to test before flying back to the US or Canada.

Also if you have had covid and it is documented ( positive test result and letter from your doctor clearing you to return to work) you can fly back to the US without a test.
