The Pants Rule

Does the resort enforce the men's pants rule for the restaurants? I would rather wear nice docker shorts during the summer heat. Thanks.

If we are not mistaken they changed the rule about long pants. We believe you can wear your dockers. Hope so--this place is called Desire.

Long pants are still required in the two specialty restaurants - Suki and Il Piacere(the white restaurant)

Not sure why some people are so against wearing pants to a nice dinner. It's bad enough seeing the ladies dressed beautifully in evening dresses, etc and their men wearing a nascar t-shirt and shorts in the buffet restaurant. Can't we just maintain a bit of a classier atmosphere in the a la carte restaurants?

Most men already seem to be fashion challenged and ladies, you have to take some responsibility here. Why do some of you allow your husband to show up for dinner as if he was going to mow the lawn? Unacceptable!

BTW, Dockers haven't been in style for about a decade now. So unless it's retro night, leave them in the suitcase.

What makes you think I'm angry....lol? It's just my (our) opinion, so no need to take it seriously. Although the post was made partly in jest, there is a lot of truth to it and as a guy, I really wish that other guys would step up and represent a little bit better, that's all. Sorry if you disagree. But you don't honestly think that the ladies like to see the men look like rub a dubs while they spent half the night trying to look like movie stars, do you?

I agree about dressing up as a guy, trust me, I go all out with my outfits, whether it is for dinner or the theme nights, I just perfer to wear dress shorts to dinner.

Sorry CLG, you have to make a choice. Are you about the guys dressing up, or are you about wearing shorts to a nice restaurant dinner? It can't be both...lol. Ok, just kidding...sort of.

Just curious though, if you go with "all your outfits", when would be the appropriate time to wear a pair of slacks and button down shirt? If not at the a la carte restaurants, then when?

Anyway, to each their own, but I just think that this is one deal where the ladies get the very short end of the stick. Doing away with the pants rule (even though I'm not sure it's enforced) simply enables the guys to look less than stellar, to say the least.

I think we could learn something from the Europeans on this one. We in North America have taken casual dress to the extreme. When I sit down at a place like Charlie Palmer and notice no shortage of guys wearing Ed Hardy and Affliction t-shirts, you know things have gone too far. It just brings down the atmosphere, and it's no different at Desire. And for anyone in the lifestyle, one would think that they would want to put their best foot forward. Maybe not though.

We "dress to impress" and treat each evening out like "date night", no matter if we are at home or at Desire. The Desire website says the dress code is "elegant" at the a la cartes. Shorts, no matter how good you think your legs look, are not "elegant". Why try and bend the 'rules'? Goodness knows the rules are bent every day at Desire, as well as at "home".

The a la cartes are air conditioned.

asd1 mentioned many of the points we support.

The gals go all out, spend "hours" looking sexy, slutty, erotic, attractive, etc and the guys wear what they wore at the beach - along with their beach footwear.

C'mon guys - a couple, to us, comes as a "package". asd1 is right in saying that the ladies have to take some responsibility in this. Why do you "let" your men leave the room looking the way they do?

If I have to "endure" 5" plus stilletttos, shirley-to-goodness you men can 'endure' and hour or two in long pants.

C'mon, guys and gals - at least dress to impress and a pair of nice summer-weight pants can't be that bad.

And just to agree, again, with asd1 - we really do need to take a lesson from the Europeans when it comes to dressing for the occasion. We tend to choose resorts that cater to a European clientele (Desire is the exception) because they dress better than North Americans (and, generally speaking, act better, too).

Now, if we could only get them to stop smoking so much! LOL!!

Totally agree about the Europeans. If only they could put the cigarettes down. We are going to Cap D'Agde next week and hope that smoking is not as prevalent as other trips we have been on in Europe. One thing is for sure though. If you want to get into a club in Europe, you can forget about shorts, or even jeans. And most don't allow pants on women.

Couldn't agree more about couples being a package. Fellas, if you're stuck wondering why you didn't hook it up at the end of the night, look no further than yourself for the answer. Take a look in the mirror and ask yourself if you struck out because of your wife looking like a million bucks, or because of your Jeff Gordon nascar t-shirt and circa 1998 Dockers shorts?

There is nothing sexier to me than a guy comfortable with himself and his clothing - whether its shorts, long pants or pajama bottoms. As I have told my husband numerous times in the past, if I do not feel comfortable I do not feel sexy - so why would i not allow him the same?

We are not big eaters so we choose to go to the buffet most nights, eating at the a la cartes probably twice in a nine day stay. My husband wears dress shorts to the buffet most nights while I do dress up, although it does not take me 'hours' to get ready and he is in far from Nascar attire.

To answer your original question CLG - your dressier shorts are accepted in the buffet. Our last trip the buffet did not appeal to us one night so we went to check out one of the a la cartes, I specifically asked the maitre d' and yes, long pants are required.
