Cartel Danger?

I have a bit of a concern with all that’s just started going on with the cartels getting activated with the recent current affairs. I would like to see what everybody’s take is currently with the scenario. My Wife and I were looking to travel in the area on late March. However, given the current circumstances I am questioning whether we should still continue to keep the trip scheduled. If situations continue to sprawl out of control, I wonder if the resort will not only give us a rain check, but possibly allows us to shift our dates to another time without any repercussions. I’m looking at trying to hold off for a few more days possibly two weeks from now. But I don’t wanna run the risk of losing the money that was already spent on canceling the trip. It’s a very touchy subject I know. I also would like to know if anybody is currently down there right now with what’s going on and how is the current ambient at the resorts. Are they taking precautionary measures? Hopefully everyone is safe that is down there now.

The current violence is in Puerto Vallarta from a cartel that operates in that part of Mexico. Cancun is completely on the other side of the Country. So the analogy would be to not travel to Miami because there is gang violence in San Diego.

You can never get any absolute assurances in any part of the world nowadays, but the previous post is correct, ie current problems are about a thousand miles away, and not new in the West Mexico. We have gone to all-inclusives in the Puritan De Carmen region for almost 20 years and always felt very comfortable and safe. I’m actually more alert and careful in USA cities.
You are probably over reacting to TV news, which is understandable. Think about this, not only would you not cancel a trip to Miami because of tv reports of isolated gang violence in San Diego - you probably wouldn’t even cancel going to San Diego, Or at least I wouldn’t!

Actually, now I check the latest news, I see this is quite a widespread problem related to killing of top cartel guy. It should die down quickly, and dont think this would stop me going to The Yucatan, but everyone has their own comfort levels.

We own a condo in PM and travel there constantly. The Condo Chat Group, that I am on, said that there is nothing out of the ordinary going on in Cancun, PM, Tulum or Playa. The few that live in the condo said that there is always a bit of drug related stuff that happens in Playa and Cancun, like any other cities. Tourists are not involved in it. The cartels are making money off of all of us and do not want that to end. We will be there in April.

Thank you all so much for the feedback. Believe it or not, these responses helped put my wife and I at ease. Looking forward to our trip next month.
