Desire Cancun changing into Temptations?

First, a quick Thanks to Wayne for setting up this excellent site.

Been reading about Desire Las Cabos changing into Temptations where the entire atmosphere will change.

Just confirming that Desire Cancun won't be changing into Temptations any time soon, as we'll be booking our 4th trip back.

Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks

Hi Nick,

It's been a long time since we have vacationed together - LOL !!

To answer your question ( at least IMHO ) Desire Cancun has been and continues to be a goldmine for the Original Resorts group - I don't see them changing the Desire Cancun location concept

ie, facts that I have received this summer from their Desire Cancun management, indicate that there average occupancy rate for this location for the last 18 months has been 87% plus 67% of guests are repeat customers.

Any resort in the world would be happy (if not ecstatic  ) about those numbers.

On the other hand the occupancy numbers for the Cabo location (other than sporadic take over weeks) has remained a constant dismal 30% - in resort terms just barely enough to keep the place open and pay overhead .....

The final nail in the coffin to Desire Cabo was the beginning of construction of the new 8 story Barcelo resort right next door - this meant that many of the rooms in the Barcelo would look right down on the Jacuzzi deck and pool area - the privacy of these areas of Desire Cabo will be gone for good one the Barcelo opens - personally I think the Original Resorts group made the only decision that made business sense give the circumstances.

Wayne:

Thanks for the excellent insight.

What a relief. So glad to hear that they'll be leaving Desire Cancun as is. It's the only place, besides Vegas, that we continually try to go back yr after yr, for its unique erotic atmosphere. Although Hedo 2 & 3 are pretty nice too, just doesn't compare to Desire.

Looking forward to seeing you all on our next trip...

From what I've been reading, it sounds like Desire Cancun needs a bit of a "freshening up".

I wonder if, when they start to make so much money when they turn the Cabo site into Temptation they will do a few upgrades to their Cancun site. Any word on that?

We were there in July and didn't really see a much freshening up that needs to be done. They were/are redecorating all the rooms.

Does anyone know who owns the vacant land on each side of Desire. Seems like Desire Cancun could have the same problem as Cabo if someone builds highrise properties there, particularly on the pool/hottub side.

TwoDV8s & all

Just a FYI - because of the nature of the land surrounding Desire (behind plus north and south) being mangrove (essentially waterlogged swamp) it is not permissible to build anything taller than two stories in this area.

Desire Cancun has wanted to add more rooms to the resort for a long time but building "up" has not and is not an option.

Anyone read the recent review on DennyP which seems to indicate that Desire own/have bought the land at the side of DC and plan to build additional units? Not sure that this is not old news but perhaps they will build these now that Cabo will not be the same sort of resort but not sure, if this is true what impact this will have on existing amenities eg. we would not have a problem is DC wished to extend facilities and increase rooms numbers but what about the limited space existing in the pool and jacuzzi areas?

There just seems to be a few "complaints" about the pool / jacuzzi / beach beds and loungers need to be "freshened up" - by that I have read about stains, etc :( and just normal "wear and tear".

The nice thing about Desire Cabo is that every room had a king-sized bed. Not so with Desire Cancun. Desire Cabo also had really high-end / high threadcount sheets. Same at Desire Cacun?

In looking at the resort map of the Desire Cancun that's posted here, I'm just a little confused about which rooms are on the second floor. Can someone please explain the numbering system. Thanks so much!

miranda - simple really any room with XX0X is the ground floor any room with XX1X is on the second floor - ie room 1901 is ground floor and room 1911 is right above it on the second floor

Someone asked about vacant land on eaither side on Desire Cancun. When were were there in September there was chatter that the resort was trying to buy the vacant land to expand.
