Rina - any updates?

If anyone is in Cancun and can send updates, it would be much appreciated. We are supposed to arrive on Saturday and are trying to decide of we should go or cancel? The biggest issue is the damage that will most likely be sustained later tonight and tomorrow, even though Rina has been downgraded. I assume the beach will be closed for a while and possibly the pool too. The weather forecast doesn't look too promising either for the next week. If the resort reopens, we would still like to go.

Any other insight would be appreciated.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that the resort is spared.

We're scheduled to travel to Desire on Wednesday. I received an email from Valentina yesterday responding to our concerns (before the storm was downgraded). She said "My suggestion is to check on Sunday how´s the weather but I think by Wednesday we should have sun and our Resort open."
Hopefully, with the storm not quite as severe, things will not be as bad.
Here is a web cam in Puerto Morelos, just south of the resort which is live and gives a little insight into what's going on.

Right now people are being evacuated from Cancun and the whole area in general. Batten down the hatches Rina's on her way!. We pray for safety for everyone who will be riding the hurricane.

Hello Everyone

Just and update, as of 10 am latest data has downgraded Rina to Tropical Storm status. Winds at the moment are only about 70 mph and expected to be less, 50 to 60 ish mph, as it passes the resort.

Storm surge is expected to be between 1 to 3 feet and the system continues to weaken.

Unfortunately the latest models now call for the system to do a U turn once it passes Cancun and swing back into the Sea. Although it should be 60 or miles off the shore of Desire as it passes once again, it just means more rain for them I am sure. At that point, the system should only be a Depression.

Rina has been downgraded once again and is now classified as a Tropical Storm.

However, the major issue for Desire will be that the storm surge will raise water levels as much as 2 to 4 feet above normal tide levels all along the coast to the right of the storm track and the surge will be accompanied by large and destructive waves. This is the main reason that Desire management has chosen to evacuate the property temporarily.

All the guests and staff from Desire have now been evacuated as a precaution.

Unfortunately until Rina actually passes by no one will be able to tell you how bad or good things may be.
