Year over Year Rate Increases

We are planning our third trip to Desire for the last week in March. I have used the same travel agent for each of our trips and have been very pleased with her services. I asked for the same room type (Superior Ocean) and the same number of nights flying out of the same airport. I was a little shocked when she emailed a qoute that is 19% higher than when we went this past April. Not sure if it is the airline fees, room rate increases or a combination of both. We will still be going but I was wondering if any of you that have already booked a trip in CY 12 experienced a similar increase.

Thanks.

It's a combination......Desire did slightly raise their rates for the first time in several years, but the constant airfare increases over the past couple years are really, really ridiculous......January airfare for the two of us is more than double what it was in January 2010.

Rates

Hello Alabama

No one like to see rates go up these days, but then again what is not going up. Desire has increased their room rates slightly for 2012, keep in mind though they did not raise them last year. A Garden view room has gone up about $16/night or 4.5% ish from the rates in 2011 and 2010.

I for one would be very happy if our daily items here, such as electricity or water bills, would have only increased 4.5% the last few years!

Anyway, with that said, the 19% that you referred to from your travel agent must incorporate other fees such as Airline cost etc to come up to that amount.

Have a great weekend.

When Desire first opened we paid 280/night for an oceanview. I guess that explains why we used to go twice/year, 2 weeks per visit. These days we can barely go once every 18 months for 7 nights. Ah, the good old days at desire!

Simple supply/demand. All our kind words have grown the demand to go to such a fantastic place giving them no option then to up rates - guess we all just need to start saying bad things about our experience and even stop going, that will inevitably lower rates - by the way I will not be following this advice, there in 10 days - :D
