Where do you say you are going?

Michelle and I have been going for a few years now and still come across the same problem. When people ask where you're going we say Cancun. Then it's "oh yah where ya staying?"

We have said Blue Bay, we have also said Azul, but it always seems to be a weird situation when you have to explain to people where you're going but not the real place. Yesterday someone asked Michelle where and it was Azul, really nice with some great people we have travelled with in the past. Then the lady asked how much? I guess it's because everyone finds it a proud thing to get a great deal...and Mexico has them, but Desire isn't one of them. So she said $2000.00 or something and the reaction was like wow you got ripped off.
We know what we pay for at Desire is worth it. But is there a really expensive place we could say that would represent the same value down there??

Hi Joe

Actually Azul is about the same price as Desire - they are both "boutique" resorts that cater to different markets and as with all things "boutique" we end up paying a premium for the privilege

FYI - for instance at Azul for the same room class (GardenView) and the same time period (YNOTS upcoming 09 May trip) the rate at Azul is $213 USD per person per night - actually more expensive than Desire for the same time period .....

We've wondered the same thing ourselves.

Isn't Azul adjacent to or at least in the same neck of the woods as Desire (as opposed to being "in" Cancun or farther down the Riviera Maya)?

nawty - Azul is the first resort on the beach north of Desire (ie to your left as you are facing the ocean) it is about a one minute walk to get there from the edge of the Desire property line.

It depends on who Im talking to. We have been getting more and more brave about it. I kinda like the look on some peopls face when I tell them about Desire.

Mike - Since Desire dropped their blatant website connection to Lifestyles and have focused more on just the couples only, erotic, c/o sides of the vacation - I believe a lot of people feel more comfortable "coming out" and admitting that they vacation at Desire !!

Many people have asked us where we go when we are near Cancun. They all want to know where we stay because we go so often. We never tell. We just tell them half truth, We rent our vehicle and usually head way south to Rio Hondo. We stay wherever we are when its time to stop driving. Just like Canada, there are many hotels along the way. We tell them all we are at business meetings. Which for the most part, is kinda true. Our kids are grown and gone now, so we dont have to worry about that. And with the internet, and cells we can stay in touch, so no one needs to know our business. If you ask the front desk, though, they will give you a "safe" phone number for family. Just tell them to mind their own business, and have fun!

We always tell any vanillas (and my parents) that ask that we'll be at Azul. It is right next door and we usually head that way on foot to get some pictures that are "vanilla friendly."

Alternatively you can say that you are going to tour around and just take pot luck, and if anyone needs to contact you they can send a text to your mobile phone.
