Desire Riviera Maya (Cancun) has recently completed room renovations which has resulted in a new category: STANDARD (15 rooms). These rooms are some of the smaller rooms with either a garden or ocean view and will now be the least expensive room category. There will also be a DELUXE GARDEN VIEW (52 rooms) and a DELUXE OCEAN VIEW (31 rooms) category. All 3 of these room categories have the same room amenities.

The current promotional rates on the current Garden View rooms are cheaper (about $22 per night) than the new promotional rates that will take effect on 1/29/13 on the Deluxe Garden View rooms. Book before 1/29 to get the cheaper rates on these rooms.

Can anyone confirm this is happening? I hate to see any increase in prices.

Sadly, Confirmed - it was announced by Desire RM to all travel agents just before xmas

No doubt you'll be on this quickly CokeMann, but is there an updated resort room map yet to show the new room categories?

I've been trying to book a Room in a garden view category, but any room on this category is available in any date from january to december. Does anyone knows why is this happening?

Not at this point in time, the STANDARD category rooms also don't show on their website so I have no idea how it's possible to book them ..........

Most of you have read here in the forum about the room renovations at Desire RM.
Now it seems the renovations are complete, and the folks in charge have decided to take the opportunity to create a new class
of rooms at RM and in the process severely limit the number of lowest priced rooms available.

The breakdown of room type at RM has been : 64- Superior Garden View, 34 Ocean View, And 16 suites of various kinds.
With the exception of Christmas time, all 64 of those GV rooms have always been available at the special early booking rate pricing. The OV rooms have rarely been discounted.

Starting 01/29/13, the new room type breakdown will be: 15- Standard Rooms, 52- Deluxe GV Rooms, 31- Deluxe OV Rooms, and the same 16 suites. They have taken the 12 smallest GV rooms and the 3 smallest/least desirable OV rooms and made them all the new "Standard" rooms. But the kicker here is- ONLY those 15 Standard rooms will be available at the current promo rate. For example- if you book now for May the rate for GV rooms is $376 per couple per night and up to 64 couples could get that rate. But starting at the end of this month, only 15 couples could get that rate and they would be put in those small rooms. Everyone else would have to go for at least the Deluxe GV room- which from what we hear will be $400 per couple per night on the early booking for the low season (May-Dec.) We do hear that there will be more times when promos will be offered on the OV rooms too in the future.

Bottom line is that- if you are looking to book for May thru Dec 2013 in Garden View and you can lock in your dates- you really need to book before 01/29/13.

We'll try and get a hold of a new room map that shows what rooms are where- but if anyone else comes up with one please post it.

It appears that Desire needs some competition in the market to help restore sensible pricing.

So what is happening to people visiting early February? Already paid for garden view room. made reservations back in fall . What type rooms will we b getting?? Randy

Yes Randy, that is a good question. We have reservations at the end of March, wonder where we stand now

As we understand it, if you book your garden view room before 01/29/2013 for any future visits, you will have access to one of the original 64 garden view rooms. That includes both the new "Standard" rooms and the "Deluxe" rooms. For the first few months at least some unlucky 15 couples every week may get stuck in "Standard" rooms even though they booked early.
But if you think that is happening to you once you arrive- don't be afraid to say you are unhappy and ask for a different room.

Since nobody seems to have published a new Desire RM room map yet, we really don't know which rooms are which.
The amenities of the standard and deluxe rooms are apparently still going to be the same. Again- from what we have heard-
the only difference is that the new "standard" rooms are the 15 smallest or least Desireable rooms on the property.
That doesn't mean they are bad rooms, many of you may have stayed in them and thought they were just fine.

I've been hoping to see Management promote Cabo with some discounts, etc.
Seems like they decided to promote Cabo by raising the average price on the most popular location.
If ya wanna go to DRM you're gonna have to ante up more cash.

Has there been a map released or do we know which rooms are the "standard" rooms? And Tony, u know the Mrs can't handle the heat of August!!
