Question about the gym

Hey,

My husband and I will be arriving on February 1st for 8 nights. It's our first trip to Desire RM, we're really excited!

Just a quick question about the gym. We've been doing the Insanity program for several months now and we'd like to keep it up while on vacation. Does the gym have enough space for us to do a workout (10x10 space)? We read in an earlier post that there aren't any TVs/DVD players in the gym but we can bring our iPad and use that instead.

Thanks in advance!

I would guess the gym to be a 20 X 30 foot room, but it is really crammed with weight equipment, treadmills, bikes, ellipticals. There may be some space in the back corner big enough for a 3X6 mat but i don't think you could find a 10X10 spot. There is a TV which is usually tuned to Mexicana futbol or to spanish-languaged mTV, but no DVD. There is a gazebo by the beach that is not used much but for yoga and stretching classes; that would be a great place to work out if you weren't using weights. Not sure what the Intensity program involves, but hand weights are available in the gym that you could carry out there. For even more privacy, there is a rarely used tennis court at the far north end of the property - it's only 30 or 40 feet from the gym.

The Gym used to be quite roomy, but a couple of years back, they crammed a few more machines in there.....I like to jump rope, which I could do quite easily before the additional gear was installed, so on our last trip, I waited for a quite spell so I could use the skipping rope....or I just skipped outside the room.

I think they should re-think the layout to allow a little more space for HIIT etc...I hope they haven't made too many changes for our coming visit in March!!

That said, all things being equal...we are on hols....and the Gym is pretty good...and the staff are cool.

Have fun..!!

We love Insanity! My much better half has done it and I got through about half before my knees couldn't take any more.. She even just bought the new one, Asylum, to lose the last of her baby weight! Holy crap it looks tough! :D The last time we were there was summer of 2011 and we would say there is not enough room in the gym to do Insanity. The gym was pretty full of equipment and depending on the day it was pretty busy with people. If you have your ipad with you would probably be better off just using the gazebo area to do it. The entertainment staff will use it sometimes for yoga in the morning but for the most part it is unused unless there is some activity in the afternoon or evening.
