Good advice for dealing with the Bugs

Postby skinneydippers » Tue Dec 23, 2008 7:09 pm

As Desire/carribean vet's we have expierience in not letting the bugs
bug your vacation. Desire is not bug infested or any bad stuff like
that. The whole carribean is though :) Your near a jungle, and next
to a beach. Its inevitable you will encounter BUGS! As for #1 Your
room. Even if its ok - still request they fog your room, we know it
as bug bombs, but as travelers use caution with the bomb word :) ya
know? Avoid fresh fruit in the evening for mosqueto prevention. #2
Everyone knows you can get mosqueto repellant and flea repellant from
jungle and beach fleas. However if you like to get FrIsKeY with your
lover or possible games with others...... the last thing you want to
do is get a mouth full of repellant, or even get some in your private
places! An old Army trick to help from being tasty to bugs but not
noticed by people is ---- Take a regular book of matches. At least 3
times a day take a match and chew on the head like a peice of straw
or a toothpick and let the sulfur disolve in your mouth gradually and
swollow it. This slowly introduces a ever so small amount of sulfur
into your body and it secretes from your skin pours just as normal
every day prespiration would occur. Dont go eating gobbs of matches
cause you may end up with mineral poisoning otherwise known as lead
poisoning.. same thing. It is ok to introduce it into your system in
moderation like 3 days before you leave to your vacation. You will
not have any odor humans can even notice, but you will notice that a
bug may land on you only to quickly get out of dodge. #3 Get in the
water and get "water-logged" , I mean get prune fingers n toes some
time soon. Bugs hate chlorine, and with a body saturated in pool
water, so what if you smell a little like chlorine, its a pool
vacation :) Same thing applies to the sea water. Bugs hate salt, but
they are attracted to the crap that floats on top, so after doing the
sea, rinse off immediately! Being waterlogged by sea water is good,
get all pruned up :) but rinse off the resedue :) We dont use
repellant and by practicing what we preach we have had wonderfull
anti bug bite vacations all over the carribean, summer camping, and
military field operations :)

We deal with the bug bites this way. Get some Rubbing alcohol, then some peroxide...(agua oxigenada) blot the bite with alcohol first....keep doing that until the sting stops. Then blot the areas with peroxide. The spots go away, and the itch if there is any is gone...There were quite a few mosquitos we noticed and we did get a few bites....Nothing like at home in August tho...nothing. We have always been surprised about the lack of bugs....this was the first time we ever went on a mosquito kill. If the wind blows from the west....the bugs from the jungle are swept out to the beach...that is a bad scene for those who are prone to bug bites....try the alcohol (rubbing) lol and the peroxide it worked for us.
