Drinkers vs non-drinkers. Still equally fun?

Postby kittykittie » Tue Feb 12, 2013 8:27 pm

First off, this will be our first trip to Desire, in May.

For those visiting Desire RM who aren't big drinkers (*crickets chirping* Anybody?? Lol) have you found that you're a bit of a fish out of water, feel left out, or surrounded in too much drunkenness? I don't really drink anymore (maybe vacay will be different tho, idk) and those who do don't bother me so long as they aren't belligerent. But I know at home sometimes I feel a bit out of my element when [i]everyone[i] is toasted and I'm not. You know, alcohol kinda makes funny things funnier, boring things exciting, etc. I usually run out of party stamina a wee bit earlier than those who are drinking heavily as well. But I do plan on progressively readjusting my bedtime to 2am before the trip, even if it does mean a few tired days at work the week before! :D

And those who are big drinkers, do you find the non- or light drinkers to be lame or any less fun? I guess I just worry a little because I have been to Hedo III in the past and it was amazingly fun but I do remember it being one giant 24/7 party (I was part of that party, I do admit!) and it was body shots and drinks and just party party party, which eventually got exhausting. If I do end up being more of a party girl at Desire, it definitely won't be to the same level as I was in Hedo.

Lastly, do the bartenders accommodate and make fun, creative virgin drinks (besides the frozen piña colada, as I can get bored of those by day 3)? Is the bar very limited besides bottles of beer and booze? Or would it be blasphemous to even ask them to consider a virgin anything? It would've been at Hedo lol.

Thanks for any and all honest answers!!

Kittie, thanks for asking about this. I started a somewhat similar topic on the Desire Pearl General Discussion page yesterday. My wife doesn't drink, but she parties like someone who does. Because she cannot drink or eat anything with alcohol, I wanted to be aware of things to look out for, especially during some of the games. We're hoping the bartenders understand and accommodate her.

We drink, but in extreme moderation.

Durring the day we mostly drank water or cranberry & soda, and at night we drank very weak rum and cokes.

The bar tenders/wait staff were always very accommodating. We didn't try but I'm sure they would make you anything you asked for as a virgin version.

Oh, and we had the times of our lives. :D

Wife drinks very little, Husband can't drink at all, and we both had a blast at Desire. We don't need alcohol to party, and we had more stamina than those who were blasted. Actually in our time in Cancun/Cabo only a small percentage got wasted. And most who did probably did so "accidentally". Just not compatible with having a the best time at Desire Saw one foursome fizzle when one of the wives passed out from drinking through the afternoon.

Husband always orders virgin, no problems. At RM Africa was good at suggesting new virgins on the beach

I can tell you as someone who does drink, they heavily water the drinks, lots and lots of ice in mixed drinks, and even the beer seems weak (3.2 only?). I spent mydays drinking Capitan and Coke's and never once got even the slighest buzz, and usually I'm a fast drinker as well. You could taste the alcohol, but, there is so much ice that it quickly feels/tastes weak. At home my wife rarely drinks, maybe once a month, but she had two or three mixed drinks a day while there.

There were several non-drinkers while we were there, no one seemed to mind, and yes they do make non-alcoholic drinks if you ask.

What a great idea, Kitty, about staying up late in the evenings the week or so before arrival! I'm actually an early bird, and at home, I'm usually snoozing by 9 or 10 p.m. I really want to maximize my time at Pearl come May, so awesome tip!

And I too want to watch how much alcohol I drink while there. I am somewhat of a lightweight, and I certainly don't want to waste any day being hung over. My advice to myself is for every drink I have, I drink a glass of water right after it. And request drinks light on the booze. 8)

My man doesn't drink but I do. It's never an issue and he has always been that 'voice of reason'. Not a killjoy at all and he loves to have fun. No one has ever cared.
