Hi all
my wife and i are planning a trip to desire rm in aug of this year. she is PADI certified I am not. here is the question. does the resort offer "resort dives" where they will take a non certified diver out for a relatively shallow dive(like 30 feet) or do you need to be PADI certified and if so what do they offer thru the hotel ?

thanks

I am PADI certified and have gone diving with the resort dive people several times. They do offer a resort course that will allow a non certified diver to particpate in a shallow dive after some pool instruction. They can also certify you if you want to spend the time studying, write the exam and do the open water dive and pass both.

The reef offers a variety of diving experiences and varying depths. Also some wreck diving if interested.

Have fun.

For PADI divers, $120 for 2 dives. For non PADI, it is $180 for 2 dives.

I am not PADI but my wife is, I go with her and they don't charge me.

You can borrow snorkeling equipment from the hotel free and bring them with you, so while waiting, you can do some snorkeling.

My wife said the current was quite strong in that area.

Something to think about: A full PADI certification takes quite a commitment of time. Vacation time is expensive. For the overall price, it would be more cost effective to get certified at home and then just go diving in Mexico. A resort certificate only takes a few hours, so it's not that intrusive, but it's literally worthless after two weeks. I'm not telling anyone how to enjoy their vacation, just adding my perspective, so you can make an informed decision about what you want to do with your vacation time. Been there, done that.
