Ipad or tablet use

I use my tablet for reading. Are tablets allowed at the pool? They do have camera capabilities and I was wondering if that makes them persona non grata?

Personally, I would hope that they are not allowed. Too many creeps out there.

We were there in May and saw lots of tablets and readers at the pool and on the beach. The staff did give us stickers to put over our camera lens on our iphones and tablet. I didn't see many with them on the devices however and took ours off after a day or two to be able to take our own pictures.

I hope that most of the guests at Desire are respectful. That said one guy was taking pics in the Jacuzzi one afternoon and was about to loose his phone completely if everyone had their way.

That's great to hear, I was afraid I would need to bring a case full of books to read. Thanks for responding.

Just hint - my wife(she is a voracious reader - lol) decided that our recent May trip she wasn't going to bring any hardcopy books this year but use only downloaded books on her tablet.

Tablets are unfortunately not as battery friendly as ePaper readers - we brought a ancillary rechargeable USB battery ( IOGEAR GMP6600P ) and she was able to read all day without problems.

We saw lots of people reading with Tablets and Phones. I also saw a group filming some of their friends in the poolside games with their phone. I really think the resort should really lookout for this. It should not be the guests job to have to point it out.

On the beach or at the pool, I dont think there is any way to regulate Ipad/Kindle useage. It MIGHT be apparent if someone is holding their IPAD in such a way that you can deem them to be photographing or taping folks. In my opionion, there is no way the staff can be held responsible to regulate this. IPADS are now a way of life and unfortunately, some of us are going to wind up getting photographed either inadvertantly or on purpose. My wife goes thru a dozen books on her kindle while laying on those beach beds and I could see how the way she holds it, someone out lounging in the water could view it as her photographing them. Short of banning them (which we'd be very much against), whats the solution?

Now if we see them in the playroom or jacuzzi beds, thats another story.

Another resort that we vacation at requires guests to have one of the resort's business cards taped over the camera lens of any phones that are being used in the public areas of the resort. Seems to work well there but I have no idea about the mechanics of an ipad or other tablet. Is the lens in a place where a business card could cover it?

When we were there in January, my wife had her Kindle and I had my Tablet and Smartphone. Only once was something said about the camera to me, and that was when a couple of people thought I was taking a picture, and it was simply because the angle I had my phone pointed to maintain the wifi signal made it look like I was taking a picture. I showed them all the pics on it and that settled it. One issue we did have, was charging devices, I have a Motorola charger for my phone that accepts two USB plugs, one night we plugged in my phone and the Kindle, 3 hours later my phone was charged but the kindle was not. When I plugged in the Kindle it charged fine. Thinking it was the charger, when we got back home I tried it and it charged two devices at once just fine. Hence, I would plan to charge one device at a time per outlet.

Yes, you can cover the lens on an ipad and iphone. If I have mine poolside, I cover it with a bright colored post-it. I would love the idea of everyone doing it and the resort requiring it.
