Ocean/Beach questions

Postby NebraskaCouple » Thu Feb 19, 2009 3:34 pm

Other sites about travel in this area have mentioned dangerous undertow or riptides. On here, some have mentioned weeds on the beach at Desire. Others have mentioned families from other resorts walking through the beach at Desire. So, here are some questions:
1. How safe is the ocean swimming at Desire? We went to Los Cabos last November and would have loved to swim in the ocean, but it was way too dangerous. Huge waves and current all week.
2. Are there weeds or other debris that washes up and makes it unpleasant?
3. Do vanilla neighbors walk by sneaking spooky peaks.
4. What about kids from neigboring resorts. Do they walk through the beach? Please say no.
5. Is total nudity allowed on the beach and in the ocean just as it is inside the walls of the resort?
6. How about pda's. Not on the beach ever?

Just got back last weekend and here are our experiences....

1. Very safe to swim. Virtually no waves as they break far off the shoreline.
2. Just some occasional seaweed but they rake and keep the beach nice
3. Vanilla neighbors would walk by and look but honestly nobody really bothered us
4. Unfortunately, yes some families would walk by and then continue to walk by even though they obviously knew what they were doing.
5. Anywhere on the beach or ocan within Desire's property limits
6. Didn't really see any during the day although did know of a couple of couples who went down at night for some action.

Hope this helps.

1. How safe is the ocean swimming at Desire? We went to Los Cabos last November and would have loved to swim in the ocean, but it was way too dangerous. Huge waves and current all week.
<b><i>Totally safe, very gentle wave action if any, sand bottom and you can walk out for a long distance before it starts to get deep</b></i>

2. Are there weeds or other debris that washes up and makes it unpleasant?
<b><i>There are some weeds especially right after a big storm, but nothing unpleasant</b></i>

3. Do vanilla neighbors walk by sneaking spooky peaks.
<b><i>Yes some, but it's not spooky - more entertaining than anything - if they linger too long Desire security asks them to move along</b></i>

4. What about kids from neigboring resorts. Do they walk through the beach? Please say no.
<b><i>No, not really - the Desire beach is signed, warning people at both ends about nudity - some parents may ignore the warning with their kids, but this would be rare</b></i>

5. Is total nudity allowed on the beach and in the ocean just as it is inside the walls of the resort?
<b><i>Yes</b></i>

6. How about pda's. Not on the beach ever?
<b><i>PDAs, yes, just use common sense, trying for PDS on the beach / beds during the daylight hours will get you a warning ticket from security</b></i>

So what is a "warning ticket"? Is it a fine? Does it mean anything bad?

They weren't giving out any tickets when I was there during a takeover by the Fluffernutters. We were out on beach beds one night and turned around to find security just walking back and forth trying to get a free show.

There wasn't much beach bed action while we were just there, but what did go on was pretty much ignored by the staff....no matter how hard "Viagra Bob" tried to get attention....

As far as vanilla beach walkers, there were a lot more than last year...but as stated, they're entertaining....the groups of guys walking by acting like they're looking straight ahead, although they all have big smiles on their faces, like their sunglasses are hiding anything...one day a group of 5 or 6 women walked by....like 7 or 8 times....

OK, Coke, this is just based on our last week there, but there were quite a few kids walking by....most parents appeared to pick up the pace, and keep the kids distracted by pointing out something in the empty ocean, or talking rapidly, but there were always a few who'd just slowly stroll through....you have to wonder if some parents can see, or read, when they're taking their time getting through, and allowing their 7 & 9 year olds to follow 25 -30 feet behind...

Agree with powderfinger regarding the families. We saw at least 4 or 5 families per day pass by. Nobody could really figure out why or what they were thinking.

Exactly what we were told by several employees last week in regards to why they are cracking down on PDS/PDA on the beach. Basically they are concerned that with enough complaints from those hotels (with Secrets being a pretty powerful player) that the gov would force them to ban nudity on the beach.

Ummm, Coke, we agree with and are/were aware of all of that....I don't see how that has anything to do with simply stating our observations during our trip though.....unless it was the comment about "Viagra Bob", who would not be me. That would be a guest whom the rest of us nicknamed that, due to the fact that everytime we saw him no matter where he was, he was doin' his wife. I for one was not going up to him on the beach and telling him to stop.......

Powderfinger - I didn't mean to center you out - LOL, just used your post as an opportunity to expand on the reasons behind the potential issues with PDSs during the daylight hours on the beach these days

Powder - on most trips we have taken, there seems to be one or more <i>"Viagra Bobs"</i> who like to think prancing around with

permanent wood will enhance their chances with the ladies - who knows for sure -
or :sx on the beach beds during daylight hours

The thing that concerns me is that with the increased beach traffic, these few that are insensitive to the whole situation jeopardize some of the freedoms for the rest of us that we have all enjoyed up 'til now at Desire (off my soapbox now - LOL )

we were there over this past NYE week and noticed a significant increase of non-Desire beach traffic even since our previous trip of August 2008. We noticed families with young children (yes, we mean young ones, 6,8,etc) walking by every day. Lots of young men/teens walking back and forth for quite a while. Groups of young women/ladies.

We have been going to Desire since they opened. Our first visit was August 2003, and it was very different then. Only Azul next door. No beach traffic. Desire was the only other resort and you could walk quite a ways without even seeing another person.

We too have talked about how the increase of "regular" beach traffic will most likely end the beach nudity for Desire in the near future. Too many people, too many resorts (and the condos are going up too) and too many opportunities for complaints.

How far south are the vanilla resorts we are talking about? We like to walk a beach for hours on end. Has anyone walked (or at least attempted) to walk to Puerto Morelos from Desire along the beach? Just wondering if it's possible.

And how far south can we walk - hours on end?

Call me curious. LOL!
