Well Wayne it's happened! Went to book through your forum for our Feb trip. That was until we saw the prices! Unbelievable! Desire's management must be smoking crack.

Once they come up with a Special or promotion for 2015 I think you will see better prices.
I cant recall a time when they didn't have a promotion going.

We've noticed the same thing last year.
We were at Pearl this past February and rate was around $580/night which was reasonable. . Today it's about $200 more per night. We didn't book until fall. Just patiently waiting for decent prices.....otherwise we look elsewhere :(

While going thru some papers I came across a page where in April 2013 we priced a standard room at both DRM and Pearl for Oct.7-13 using the Desire web site.
For Oct 2013 rate at DRM was $2532 and Pearl was $2945.60
For Oct 2014 rates at DRM is $2924 and Pearl is $3511
For Oct 2015 rates are listed at DRM $3024 and Pearl is $4228
This information for 2014 and 2015 was pulled up on June 2 for a standard room from the Desire web site.
Just like every thing else cost has gone up, not too bad at DRM But thru the roof at Pearl. Wife has just started a new job so it looks like we ill have to wait in next year to plan a Desire getaway and it looks like it will be at DRM.

Yes, we were also shocked last year by the price increase from previous years. I guess we'll be shocked again, if we go. Desire knows there aren't many resorts that cater to the same clientele. It sure would be nice if they had competition.

As a 14 time visitor I never thought I would leave Desire and go back to Hedo but they have out priced us finally. 1400.00 more for the same week a Desire RM vs a comperable room at Hedo.

As much as we hate higher prices we must remember that Desire like most companies operates to make a profit. As their prices increases they must raise their prices.
Even though we will be unable to get to Desire this year I have been watching their rates from 2013 thru 2015 and yes rates have gone up but not out of limits. I have also priced several other resorts for the same week and they are just as high or higher. One in Fl. for a hotel room and food only was over $4200 for 7 days Pearl is cheaper and includes drinks. At Hedo. the rates for a C/O garden room is $528 per night which again is about the same rate as Pearl.
We have been to resorts that allowed single men and have been disappointed with the way a lot of the men acted around the ladies so we will stick with Desire as long as the rates are close to each other. We don't need the best room at the resort just the sexy vibe and the great guest that we meet when we are there.

Given the labor market they work in be assured that they make a lot of profit.

The point is that Desire is charging 5 star prices when they are closer to 2-1/2 stars in terms of their rooms and food. They are taking advantage of their unique clientele knowing that they have little competition for that market. That is of course their right, but it is also very disappointing to long time customers like ourselves. You can only keep charging more for less for a time before you frustrate your customers away.

Not too sure how many of us have seen their books to see their income and their debts. Most of us only see the final product and not what goes on behind scenes. Kind of like the $8.00 hot dog or beer at an airport and ball parks if you want it you pay their price or do without. One of my jobs when working for an airline was to forward to the city a monthly report listing;
1. Number of flights for that month.
2. Weight of all aircraft at takeoff
3, Number of all departing passengers on board
4. Weight of all aircraft landing
5. Number of all passengers getting off.
6. Number of bags loaded.
7. Number of bags offloaded.
8. Total tonnage of cargo loaded and of offloaded.

This was because the airline is charged by the city for each passenger as well as a certain rate per 1000 pounds of weight. On a 767 you are talking over 40,000 pounds for each plane. Add to that what is paid for insurance and other things that I can't remember. All those things have to paid for somehow. How many people buying a ticket think about those things, they only see the labor and fuel cost. I guess that it is sort of like going out to dinner and seeing a bottle of wine for $50 that you saw at the wine shop for $20. They have to cover the cost of buying the wine, storing it, chilling it, then serving it.
While none of us like higher prices if we want to go somewhere like Desire we pay the price as our choices are very limited like airline tickets, or hot dog and beer in certain places. I'm not too sure how many people follow all this but there are many expenses that the general public don't see or even think about.
