NEWBIES.....please give me the lowdown!

Postby michelleandjay » Thu Jul 24, 2014 9:00 am

Hi!

My husband and I are travelling there on the 24th of August....excited and nervous all at the same time! I find that I am online reading everything everyday with anticipation! :D So I have a few questions that have just recently popped up based on reading on here:

1. How well attended are the theme nights? If I dress up, how risque can I be? And what about my husband? Will he look out of place if he is in a nice dress shirt and pants???
2. Do you have to pay for beds at the beach?
3. Should you carry money with you?
4. How do you know if the resort is full/booked for our week?
5. What time should we be on the beach to secure our bed?
6. Do we have to make reservations?

Ok, I know that is a lot of questions but hoping we can get some answers before our trip!

Leaving in one month and I need to get shopping!!! Woo hoo!!

Oh! And one other thing....

Is there a phone number that is SAFE/VANILLA that we can give our parents? They are pretty straight and narrow (if ya know what I mean) and will probably head straight to church if they know we are coming to Desire LOLOL [-O<

Thank you!

Just a FYI - all your questions have been asked and answered many time before - try using the forums search function(upper right of each page) to find all posts about each of your questions :D

For example - re: question safe phone number
Search term safe phone number gives you....

Ok thanks!

I wasn't sure about the "safe" phone number b/c it was a very old post.

Also, in regards to my other questions, I have read posts that contradicted each other...for example 1. reservations and 2. costs of beds on the beach. I was just looking for the most recent information.

Depends on the week - Ladies as risque as you dare - men as you suggested for the tamer ones
2. Do you have to pay for beds at the beach?

No, but you have to be up early 7>8am to be able to get one of the free ones
3. Should you carry money with you?

I never do
4. How do you know if the resort is full/booked for our week?

You could always estimate by looking at the Desire online booking engine for your week to see the room availability for that week
5. What time should we be on the beach to secure our bed?

early 7>8am for the free ones or pay $20 per day for one of the limited # of the ones that can be reserved.
6. Do we have to make reservations?

In the restaurants ??

The only place you need to make advanced reservations(ie the morning of the day you want) is for Sahló and the teppanyaki tables in Suki

To be fair, we never make reservations for either of these restaurants and eat in them every night. Never had to wait more than 30 minutes before.

Since when did they start requiring reservations at Sahlo? We were there in December and that wasn't the case then. We eat there most nights, and I HATE having to have a schedule on holiday.

I know PITA :? When we where there last(the first week of May) reservations at Sahló where mandatory and if you look at the Desire site they do list reservations for Sahló as required.

To be seated at the teppanyaki tables inside Suki have always required a reservation - no reservations required for for normal seating in Suki

Agreed ref Teppanyaki but we were there 1st week in June and never made reservations for Sahlo. We ate there at least 6 times during our stay.

For times when the resort is book to near capacity, a quick inquiry from staff during initial registration, as Cokeman says, good idea to reserve your requested dinner time at the Sahlo guarantees you no wait time. Sahlo can give you a good idea of peak dining hours also.
