Miranda,
As has been reported previously, Desire did buy the property to the north between Desire and Azul. Plans were drawn and there have been revisions along the way. But now permits have been applied for and, if all goes well, construction will start this fall. Keep in mind that the permit process there can be slow and difficult- lots of environmental issues to deal with. But here is what we were told the current plans call for:
50 new upscale rooms are to be built. These will be priced at two different levels. There will be a new pool with swim up bar (not to replace the existing pool but to provide another option.) There will be a new jacuzzi lounge added too, and another restaurant in this new area. They hope to be allowed to raise this whole area 8' or so up from the beach level to provide some privacy from the prying eyes on the beach. None of this will have any effect at all on guests in the current resort areas during construction. It is expected to take a year to complete.
We did ask specifically about the disco. We were told that of course with the addition of another 100 guests the disco would have to be made bigger anyway. So they plan to expand it in it's existing location- incorporating the storage room and other areas and renovating the whole thing. The timeline for the disco changes was uncertain- whether it would be before or after the new rooms are completed. Things can change, but this is what we were told the current plans are...........
As for the music in the disco, we had no problem at all on this trip. We were there every night. Generally the music they played on their own was a good mix, geared pretty well to the mix of the crowd. And they were very open to requests- often asking for them- and they were played quickly.
Towels were never a problem. Plenty on hand from the pool towel stand and there was no check out and return thing where you were responsible for turning them in. And there was never a shortage at the hot tub either- plenty to spread out over the beds there or use wherever you wanted.
Desire DOES take complaints seriously and it's rare that they don't address them quickly. But occasionally things do pop up and of course some things are harder to resolve than others.
This trip- other than some bug bites- we had a really hard time finding anything negative at all.
