Newbie Questions

Hi Guys,

My wife and I are thinking of going to DRM in January of 2017 at the end of the month. We not new to the lifestyle, but new-ish (We have a local couple we swing with and go to swing clubs in our area).
My questions:

We heard that out of the lifestyle resorts that DRM was the best one (no single guys - unlike Hedo that lets singles in). But there have been some "not so good" reviews as of late. Most of these are around the beach erosion and the construction.

We love the beach and all though the pool and Jacuzzi area sound really fun... We do want some beach time too.

1. Has anyone heard or has seen of how much of the beach is or is not there?

Also there were some really not good reviews about the construction. Specifically that the construction workers were leering and making comments which made a lot of people uncomfortable. Now this review was in November and I have no idea if there is any construction going on now.

2. Does anyone know if DRM is still under construction?

Lastly we usually go away for 10 days. At a regular all inclusive resort that is prefect. Enough time to have fun and enough time to relax.

3. is 10 days too much at a place like DRM? What is the average length of a stay for most people?

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Don't even think about it. Book it now if you can find room and just go! Desire is an amazing magical place and you really won't regret it.

The beach was eroded by a huge storm earlier this fall, from what I hear it is coming back nicely and will (hopefully) be back to normal by the end of January for you. Or there will be another storm and gone completely... totally up to mother nature. The beach beds are currently on the grass and the ocean and surf is still there. So other than walking in the sand, not much has changed. Coke posted a great 360 photo last week: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7617

One of the buildings was demolished to make way for 4 Desire Suites. Construction was minimally disruptive not really an issue except for the demolition days. and They are were supposed to be completed construction at the beginning of this month but now looks like it will be in a few weeks. Should be good to go for your trip.

People go for all sorts of durations. We usually only go for 3/4 nights but that is way too short and ends up being a messy bender trying to jam 10 days of fun into 3 days. lol! When we went for a longer trips, we learned to try something new every day, so that there was some variety, something to look forward to and re-connect time. Snorkeling, Scuba, Paddleboarding, Golf, Booze Cruise, Massage, Photoshoot, visit Pearl, Puerto Morelos, Playa delCarmen, Cancun, Crococun Zoo, etc. lots to do!

Feel free to PM if you want to ask us more...

We are going in Jan. We were originally going to Pearl and recently switched to RM because it seemed more people would be there. We have had our own nervous ideas about the beach and facilities and in the end realized that it is going to be great and more importantly, the people will be the best part. Now after reading the post from NakedGolf, we feel even better and excited. Hope to see you there.

We were there the end of October through the November 2nd. The construction was not an issue and did not have any issues with the workers. This was when the water started to rise and covered the beach. My understanding is that the water is now receding, and the beach is returning. We are going back in Feb for a long weekend trip, and back again June. Go for as long as you want and you will pace yourself just fine!! Book it!!

Don't overthink this...you will have a blast...if people look for negatives they'll find them anywhere.

We are still upset they don't have bendy straws. Sometimes foam gets in our drinks at the foam party when we take sips. Bendy straws would allow us to keep our drinks elevated above our heads while taking sips. That's the only bad thing we can say about Desire...and we're bringing our own bendy straws next trip to rectify that little issue.

My point is this, go, relax, embrace everything it has to offer. You will not be disappointed. Is it perfect, no...but it's as close as I've seen in my lifetime!

I think 9 or 10 days is just right. Both time we went so far has been 14 days and after all the people we met in the first week left we could have left too. We will prob do 9 or 10 days next time instead of 14.

We 'just' got back and the beach was amazing!! Best we have seen in a very long time. Staff and service was as fantastic as always.

We spent a lot of time on the beach beds with the construction going on behind us. It really was a non-issue. Not too sure if we like the architecture of the new buildings.

One thing we did notice is that they didn't have the huge selection of liquor as in previous visits. Not necessarily a bad thing - we still got the drinks we wanted and had a wonderful time.

We are going to be out in Playa area and staying at local resort for work. We have wanted to check our one of these resorts for a night or two... Which do you recommend?

We prefer Pearl ourselves, it is a personal preference of course. The reasons we like Pearl better are:

1. The resort is nicer - Nicer finishes in the rooms etc.
2. It is a smaller, more intimate resort
3. The Jacuzzi is much bigger and on ground level (you don't have to walk up two flights of stairs while drunk and wet)
4. The club is on ground level also (same as above, minus the wet)
5. The foam party is much better and longer

Things we like better about RM:

1. The food is better/more choices

There is my two cents, use it wisely.

Agree with the above fully. One added point is that either can be mild to wild from our experiences, all depending on the guests at any given time at either resort. However Pearl tends to be a bit more mild of a crowd. RM for ISM, Pearl for any other time.

Anyone know if they have ever had a night foam party in the Jacuzzi? that would be well worth squishing all those bodies in that tight space!
