Wow that's a change, especially because I assume the beach is still officially public property and I have often seen passers by and the occasional minor walking the beach. In the past sex on the beach was disallowed in part to prevent complaints from those from outside DRM who could be offended.

Cokemann care to offer comment on this?

If true, it's a radical reversal of a policy that none of us really liked - but understood the reason for it.

I'll be on site two weeks today and will report if it's an official policy change or not (and if so, also try to get the reasoning behind the change)

We like your thinking Ron & Kim. We'll save a beach bed for you.

I always thought the reason no PDS was because all beaches in Mexico are public property. So was under the impression that is was a Public decency law and not a resort policy. Let's all hope this sticks.

We just returned from our 16th trip to Desire and were also surprised to see the beach beds listed
as one of the acceptable areas to have sex.
The beach is a public space. As sex in public is illegal in Mexico, this is not a matter of resort “policy”

There has always been some action on the beach beds, but as long as a couple were somewhat discreet
about it, (covered with a towel etc.) security generally turned a blind eye.
Over our 10 day trip, we noticed several couples being extremely obvious. In one case, he was on top, she
had her head hanging off the foot of the bed !

People walk their kids down that beach...
In the past, with the signs on the beds warning guests, and the beach listed as off limits, the resort had
plausible deniability. Condoning it in print is a big problem..
Given the power of social media, it only takes one outraged parent – perhaps armed with a video clip-
and a story about her 10 year old little girl witnessing an “event”, and adding the fact that the resort
encourages the behavior, and we have a shit storm.
Desire has enjoyed a reputation of being a classy resort. In the scenario above , we would be
painted in a very different light.
Suzi and I are definitely beach people. We love to hang out on the beds all the way til tub time.
Getting permission to have a nude beach is not a given in Mexico. We would all certainly suffer
if the police had to crack down on the resort because of a tourism publicity nightmare.

We expressed our thoughts to the manager on check out, and it seemed we are not the first to bring this to
their attention.
Just our 2 cents worth.

Sounds hot! :bj

Based on the above post, I'm thinking that if guests are speaking to management against it, the new policy has a decent chance of being short lived, maybe gone by the time we arrive in 10 days. Doesn't matter, because....

Explorer79 wrote:We were planning on breaking that rule in early May, now we will merely be conformists.

Maybe we won't be conformists after all, back to being non conformist rule breakers! Somehow this feels naughtier

About the kids walking down the beach... Even if no one is "doing it" there are going to be naked bodies all over the place, for instance on the volleyball court, on the beach, it's never going to be anywhere even close to kid friendly. Plenty of chances for outrage already, I don't think someone going at it on the bed is going to be the tipping point.

As for the outraged parent, sure I could see it but it would be pretty hypocritical of them to go all judgmental while at the same time making a video of other people without their consent and posting it online (then presumably store it off in their own private porn stash).

We are in agreement with you. If DRM wants to relax the PDS policy it would seem that the logical place to do it would be the pool area or the beds near the Melange bar.

I have to disagree with you here. There is a world of difference in most people's minds between naked volleyball (honestly, I've never seen anyone playing naked and only one or two where a lady was topless) and blatant banging on a beach bed. I think most nudism organizations make the case that they are family friendly and it's not about sexuality. Plenty of examples of nudist kids playing volleyball with their parents. Yes, someone could still get outraged that their kids saw a boob but they would be unlikely to get a lot of traction on that issue. f**king on the beach bed? - now there's something that could blow up.

I don't think fear of being hypocritical is much of an inhibitor for many people. Charging Mom with being a hypocrite is a feeble defense of being caught fornicating in public.

To be clear, I don't really care whether or not any couple has sex on the beach bed. That's a risk/benefit choice they have to make. I'm just surprised that Desire is seemingly giving them the pretense of protection from that risk with this policy.

We just returned from RM last week and we did notice 3 or 4 occurrences of open sex on the beach beds, and security saw it and walked on by. But they were watching closely to make sure no walkers saw it. I think if walkers had come by they would have stopped the sex.
I also noticed a more lax policy to sex at the pool. We saw a lot of oral and 2 or 3 occurrences of all out sex at the pool beds. Everything seemed more lax.

Having just come back we can confirm this is the new policy. It's printed right in the book they give you at check in. In speaking with the GM he clearly indicated that sex "on the beach" is not permitted, but on the beach beds is since they are technically "Desire's property."

While I was expecting to see stronger warnings on the signs entering the beach, they were actually a bit smaller and non-descript than before. That being said, this trip had by far the fewest number of beach walkers in 13 trips. It's very difficult to get around the sandbags by Breathless now due to erosion - and it looks very uninviting when you approach. Heading in from Azul, the house with the large wall now forces you to go out in the sea during high tide if you want to get around. Over 7 days I only saw one family with kids walking by and that was before 10am.

Hopefully even though this is now permitted, people will still use discretion while enjoying this privilege so as not to risk losing the freedom.

What about sex or play on the beds at night time? Less chance of walkers in particular families / kids.

It seems that after dinner or night club a stroll to a beach bed as a couple or with friends at night could be a lot of fun too :bj

Good point. I wasn't necessarily trying to equate them but was just making the observation that nude people on the beach is enough to offend some people, and if that is technically against the rules then why not do away with that as well - just different degrees of the same logic.

I don't think fear of being hypocritical is much of an inhibitor for many people.

This is certainly true.

This is how I figure it would play out in general. Rules or not, there's probably little chance that we would exercise this option during the day (although you never know), at night however...

To me, it just seems like a non issue really based on my admittedly limited experience - I just haven't seen much beach traffic at all, never seen any kids although I'm sure it happens. People were already going at it on the beds when it was against the rules and all was well. Desire must agree or they never would've opened things up. I just think it's a bit premature to go trying to get them to change the rule when it hasn't even been given enough time to play out one way or the other. Could be trying to solve something that might be problem but then again might not.

Hello Everyone,

We just returned last week from the resort. As stated on here the resort now has a "Black Book" that is handed out to all guests upon check in.
Below is a scan of the page that contains the information regarding the new policy of sex on the beach beds.

Have a great day everyone,
See some of you this October :D
Cheers

I understand the beaches in Mexico are public, but as far as DRM goes, it seems quite isolated. Other than Breathless next door which is adults only, the next closest resort is the Azul which is quite the distance away.

What is the likelihood that kids stroll through the beach? Has anyone seen children stroll through the beach ? Are there nearby access points for the public to park and access the beach.

You see kids walking through TTR all the time, but what's the likelihood at Desire RM ?
