I have heard small amounts of Marijuana are now legal in Mexico. Does anyone know if this true or just a rumor?

Sort of. They "decriminalized" it- not the same as legalized. Below are excepts from some articles:

"Mexico decriminalized small amounts of marijuana, cocaine and heroin on Friday — (from a story on 8-21-09)

"This is not legalization, this is regulating the issue and giving citizens greater legal certainty,"

The maximum amount of marijuana for "personal use" under the new law is 5 grams — the equivalent of about four joints. The limit is a half gram for cocaine, the equivalent of about 4 "lines." For other drugs, the limits are 50 milligrams of heroin, 40 milligrams for methamphetamine and 0.015 milligrams for LSD.

Anyone caught with drug amounts under the new personal-use limit will be encouraged to seek treatment, and for those caught a third time treatment is mandatory.

Even those caught with small amounts of drugs, legal under the new law, will have to go before a judge, prove they are addicts and seek treatment. "

Never mind the actual law, I was under the impression that you would be escorted from the property by security if caught with any illicit drugs because they (the resort that is) just don't need the headaches.

Makes sense to me but does anyone know for sure if its true ? Personally, I am not willing to be "blacklisted" from Desire so I would never even consider it, but maybe thats just me ......

Steve,

No doubt your impression is correct. Our group had a chat tonight and Mia was being questioned via IM during the chat. A question came up about drugs. She was very clear to state that any and all illegal drug use on the resort property would yield and immediate eviction from the property with no reimbursment.

Thanks for the info, just wondering about the laws in Mexico. You wouldn't want that element in a nice place like "Desire".

for us, marijuana is the only thing that could make our desire trip any better. we never really smoke it at home but i would love it if it were available there. my wife and i both get too full from drinking without ever really feeling the effects much. just a couple of hits would be so nice.

I am glad they are so strick on the drug policy. Unfortunately, Marijuana has quite a strong smell, and my wife can't stand it. We would not go to Desire if there were people smoking pot in public areas.

FYI - In recent discussions with Mia, she was very clear that Desire has a zero tolerance policy with regard to illicit drugs, including marijuana. If a guest is found to be in possession of such substances they will be asked to leave immediately without refund.

I hope this helps to clarify/reinforce some of the earlier messages.
