Cash

We will be there for five days in Oct. First timers btw. We were wandering about traveling with cash. I'm thinking around $1.5-2k to cover tips and other like massage and photo shoot etc. Our debit card wont work due to in being out of country and only have one CC which is a discover and the resort doesn't accept it. So its cash.

I seem to remember reading there were issues with it coming up missing from safes, so wandering if that has been resolved or what others do to stash it.

I'm not too worried about traveling with it so much as it seems like the trip should be fairly seamless from airport to resort. Although we were thinking we would like to detour to WalMart en route.

Any input would be appreciated.

I haven't heard anything recently about issues with room safes. You'll need to decide if you trust the room safe, as it's your most obvious option. If not, you can bring a padlock and try locking in a dresser or your luggage.

You may want to check with the resort. If I recall correctly, they require a credit card upon checkin to cover incidentals.

Why would you want to take that chance with cash? It is so easy to get a Visa card and all the protection that come with it. Even if you use it only when you travel. We take a couple hundred with us for tips and anything else can go on the card. Pay it off when we get home. No risk.
I am sorry. I don't mean to preach. Taking that much cash to a foreign country is just asking for trouble.

What about something like a prepaid Visa card?

get a Mylockie. It not infallible but it makes it well visible if someone has gotten in your safe.

we book with Expedia and never need to leave a cc at the front desk.

thanks for all of the suggestions! We are going to get another card since my wife didn't want to mule a wad of cash
