Mosquitoes? And time of year...

We've booked our first trip to DRM for next Feb, and are wondering if it's a bad time of the year for Mosquitoes. Whenever I'm in an area where they are prevalent, I'm always getting bitten.

Do I need to bring bug spray, and are they bad any specific time of the year, or is there a time that had less of an issue with them?

I can't find more than one comment on this topic...

We were there in late February. While I never get bitten my wife is a magnet for bug bites. I am happy to report that she didn't get one bite while we were there. I would still bring bug spray, but at least you have one opinion. I am sure the weather has some influence on the bug population. I believe February is one of the more drier months in Cancun as well and that helps.

We encountered mosquitoes on a trip in September but never in trips in March and December - if that helps.

We go in February, and bugs are a non-issue.

Mosquitoes seem to be an issue for us only at night by the lobby bar. That's the only place they have bothered us.

For bug repellent try Picaridin lotion. The lotion version is almost taste/smell free and it works well... amazon sells the lotion, though we got it through REI. The spray works well too but has more taste/smell.

We just returned and oddly enough didn't see any sign of mosquitoes - figured there would be some as we did encounter some last November (but none in September). Back in May no sign either.
