FYI - mirrors removed from the rooms

Postby texascouple1208 » Fri Nov 24, 2017 10:16 am

Just back from our second trip to RM. When we arrived in our garden view room we noticed it did not have one of the large mirrors that our (oceanview) room had on our first trip. We inquired with the gentleman helping with our bags and he said they had removed all the mirrors a couple weeks prior.

In conversation with some other guests later on, we were told (this is all secondhand) that an intoxicated guest fell into one of the mirrors and was injured, so they removed them all. Feel awful for the guest, but we did miss having the mirror...

We were there at the same time. Tragically, the aforementioned guest passed away from his injuries.

Unfortunately, this is true. We are friends and were meeting them at the resort the next day. They had been at the hot tub and came back to rest and he slipped sitting down on the bed and fell into the mirror. The mirror shattered and came down on his arm. The RM staff helped greatly getting him medical attention and to the hospital, but the hospital is a distance from the resort. He underwent an 8 hour surgery and they restored his arm. He passed away from complications the next day we are not certain exactly if it was the blood loss or something else.

This was truly a freak accident but something that could have happened to any one of us. His wife is now experiencing issues with accessing most accounts that have his name on them without a translated death certificate. She has been told this can take a month. A GoFundMe has been set up for her. If as a part of the "Desire Family" the members here could make even a small donation it would help tremendously.

One other thing I would like to mention is that the management of RM were so helpful in this tragic event. Luis the butler, Alessio the manager took turns staying with the Patti and helped in translating. She had so much praise for them even in her grief. Fabiola also was so helpful in all the arrangements. I just wanted to make sure that everyone knows they truly are like family.

Thank you. This is so good to know and so not surprising. Luis has been our butler for years and excellent to his duty. All of the staff are like family after the first trip and without a doubt, this has shaken them as well. Very good on Desire, they are the best. Heart felt compassion and sympathy to Pattie and family.......
