Desire Family Help

We wouldn't normally do this but it is and extenuating circumstance. We are doing this for his wife.

Unfortunately, during our last trip to RM there was a tragic accident. We were to meet two couples we know at the resort. One couple went two days early. On their second day, they had been at the hot tub and came back to rest. He slipped while sitting down on the bed and fell into the mirror. The mirror shattered and came down on his arm severing the artery. The RM staff helped greatly getting him medical attention and to the hospital, but the hospital is a distance from the resort. He underwent an 8 hour surgery and they restored his arm. He passed away from complications the next day we are not certain exactly if it was the blood loss or something else.

This was truly a freak accident but something that could have happened to any one of us. His wife is now experiencing issues with accessing most accounts that have his name on them without a translated death certificate. She has been told this can take a month. A GoFundMe has been set up for her. If as a part of the "Desire Family" the members here could make even a small donation it would help tremendously.

Thank you

What a sad and horrible tragedy!
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Patti.

Thanks, Coke (or whoever) for moving this to the top.
And....thanks to dnbinmi for making us aware of how we can help.

We've never met Ken & Patti, but our hearts go out to Patti!
We've seen people slip and fall on the slick tile at resorts and thus suffer some pretty serious injuries, but never as tragic as this.
We've had a "close call" when Mrs DA became gravely ill on a trip to Jamaica several years ago and it required evac to a US hospital.
$12,000 and 4 hours later she was in a Miami hospital for 7 days.

Travel Insurance -- Don't leave home without it.

Carpe diem!
Make every day count!

Agree 100% with travel insurance. We average about 15 weeks a year out of country and to some of the craziest experiences, activities and places in the world. Read the travel ins. policy every well before buying it and know how to use it once you may have to use it. Some come with very strict requirements once an occurrence happens otherwise they are void. If you travel off the beaten path of tourist locations, do some reading up before you go on emergency evacuation back to your home country from there. In other words, please just don't buy a policy and stick it in your luggage and think you are alright. Have that 1-800 number in your phone and use it asap. So far, other than the Mrs's getting bruised up escaping the Las Vegas mass shooting this past October, we have be very lucky so far but this is a reminder that tragic incidents can even happen on your own in your vacation suite.

Desire family, please help out with Patti's expenses to the GoHelpMe fund above whatever you can......

What an absolute tragedy, our hearts go out....we're wondering what ultimately happened to cause his passing. Did they determine? Was it hospital negligence?
So, so sad.
We've actually moved those colossal framed mirrors because they were in terrible spots to access closets, light switches, etc.

An fyi for all....The rooms have very slick tile floors that can get instantly glazed with moisture on warm days and nights when the dry a/c air hits the ocean air...extremely hazardous.
We've seen several people hurt slipping on the tile throughout the resort over the years--especially before they put non-skid tape on the hot tub stairs. We remember well hearing a man's head bounce down those stairs. He was tough and rebounded, but wow what an awful scenario.
We move very slowly around the grounds when it is wet.
