Funny you should ask, cause last week as we arrived and were waiting for our bags at the carousel, I overheard a woman asking where the bus terminal was. She was told by a travel co-ordinator that she would need to take a taxi to it as it was a 15 minute ride into Cancun. I dont know if she was totally accurate but that is what she said.

Keep in mind it is only a 20 minute taxi to Puerto Morales. Just food for thought

If I remember correctly, the bus terminal is downtown....no direct bus service from the airport except for charters. Unless money is really tight, I'd just take a taxi or shuttle service...much less hassle.

Cali_desire_cpl is correct - in order to get the ADO bus that runs to Playa del Carmen with a stop in Puerto Morelos you would have to pay for a shared van ride($16 USD per head) or a local bus ($2 USD per head and only runs once per hour) to the ADO bus terminal on the corner of avenues Tulum and Uxmal in downtown Cancun then take the ADO bus (approx $5 USD per head) to Puerto Morelos then get a taxi from Puerto Morelos to Desire ($13 USD for two) - that and also dragging your baggage - lol

You are already far more expensive than using a direct transfer service.

Here is a link to a transfer service that we regularly use (15+ trips and still counting) that will provide a direct (not shared) transfer to Desire or Puerto Morelos from the airport for $40 USD one way.

We prebooked our shuttle before we left home but next time we won't bother.

Next time we will just walk past all the time-share guys and head outside where we'll just grab the first available shuttle to the resort.

Miranda,

Could you elaborate on that...

Did you have a bad shuttle driver or experience ? I personally LOVE walking out the door and seeing Transbeach holding up our name and escorting us to our shuttle.
I think it would be a pain to not have it prearranged.

We just get a cab...it is a little more expensive but we don't have to worry about any shuttle confusion. One trip our plane was 1/2 hour early and we had to wait for the shuttle...now, we just head to the taxi stand in the baggage terminal, pay the taxi fare (they give you a slip), head outside and hop in a cab....easy with no hassle. It is about $10 more than shuttle service but that's how we prefer to do it. You can also hire a private car or limo too....2 years ago we shared a limo with friends.

miranda - FYI - there are no regularly scheduled shuttles to Desire - you can arrange a shared ride inside the baggage terminal (see the post above by Cali_desire_cpl) which will be about $30 per person - you may have to wait up to 40min until they have enough people collected going south before they depart, the good thing is that Desire will be one of the first stops.

As Cali_desire_cpl mentioned you can also get a private direct (taxi) from the same kiosk - however that will cost you $65 USD one way to get to Desire. We have done this several times and works out well

- however if you compare the rates for a prearranged transfer company (such as I mentioned above) they do offer a much better deal $$ wise,

We just booked our private transfer for January - $80 round trip total, private car, no waiting and no dropping others off at surrounding resorts. A great deal for the convenience!

We didn't have a bad experience at all with our shuttle or our driver. It just seemed unneccessary to prebook from home.

We speak very little Spanish and our driver spoke very little English. We were the only three in the vehicle.

The "20 minute" transfer to the resort from the airport seemed much longer. And it's quite a boring drive since there is very little to see along the way.

Had we been in one of the shuttles that takes others to the various other resorts, we would have had someone else to chat with.

We also love the looks of the folk's faces when we tell them we are going to Desire. It's pretty funny. Plus they have all sorts of questions - and they have all sorts of preconceived ideas and stories they've heard about a resort like Desire.

And, on check out, Desire will call you a cab or shuttle. It's there within what seems to be seconds as there is a taxi stand just outside the Desire property. The ride from the resort to the airport seems like only 10 minutes!
