Pool Temp

Postby desire512 » Sat Dec 19, 2009 12:24 pm

We have been to Desire many times , our last trip in March 08 when they were just installing some sort of heater for the pool that was located on top of the jacuzzi suite rooms. Is that now working? I have read several posts but none that have said that the water temp was good in the winter months. Is there a policy on heating the pool? Last few times hardly anyone in the pool during the winter . Any info appreciated.

When we there 2 weeks ago, there was no evidence of a pool heater functioning. The water was far too cold for most people and thus the pool was mostly empty.

Pool Temp

Just read a post on DennyP from someone who was just there, stating that the heater is not functioning. Any one heard a response from Desire management ?

It's ridiculous that the pool is STILL unusable over the winter months. We all hear about this heater, even get a report of how and when they intend to use it, and yet still hear from the guests (i.e. those who pay the bills) that its too damn cold to go in. Funny how all the vanilla resorts are able to heat theirs.....

Actually, we were at a resort in Puerto Aventuras last November '08 and their pools were ice cold - colder than the one at Desire this past November '09.

But, when there was a take-over group coming in on the Monday we were leaving, funny thing that the pool all of a sudden was warm and there were lots of folks in the pool.

^^^^Interestingly, we were in Cabo recently for a takeover and arrived a couple of days before the group. The pool was really cold. By the time everyone showed up, the pool was toasty warm. So, I guess this is supposed to be some kind of cost saving measure. What a joke!

It's a great example of careful use of words... Yep, the pool heater is working perfectly. Actually turning it on & using it is a different story.

We're hoping that since the resort is almost full for our trip at the end of January that they'll be utilizing the perfectly functioning pool heater.

I would really hope that they have it on for New Year's Eve, as the place is filled to capacity. That said, they should have it one constantly during the winter given the premium prices for their rooms.

We were there Dec 11-16 and the temperature in both the Pool and Hot Tub was great. The Pool water was definitely heated, and while it was not cranked up to hot tub levels, it was very comfortable to be in.

In case anyone missed this from the
"news directly from Desire management"
section here in the forum, here is copy of Mia's
post from 12-29:

"Although we’ve been having some inconsistencies with the pool heater during previous days, we would like to inform you that since Sunday the heater is in the best condition to be working 6am to 6pm every day for the next few months. It is managed manually at the moment however, will install a thermostat that allows it to work automatically according to ambient temperature.

It is important to remember that the average temperature of the Riviera Maya during the winter months is not less than 24 °C, except days of heavy rain that brings the temperature down to 20°C. This means that nobody is going to freeze if they choose to be in the pool.

Incase you consider that we must regulate the temperature during your stay please do not hesitate to contact me and we will gladly follow your request."

Obviously, from reading the most recent trip reports, Mia's post was just paying lip service to the questions concerning the heater and lack of use....why even have one if you're not going to use it?!

I find it inconceivable that this is even an issue with a resort the quality of a resort. Why should a guest have to ask for the pool heat to be turned on? Just turn the friggin heater on and be done with it!

No, it doesn’t make sense that Desire would go to all the trouble of buying and installing a pool heater- and then not use it. Because it doesn’t make sense, I really don’t believe it is true.
Based on Mia’s note, and on my own 30 years of experience in the wholesale heating products supply business (including a few pool heaters), I have another theory about what is happening.
I won’t boor anyone with all the math involved , but pool heaters are not sized by their manufacturers and suppliers to be used only 12 hours a day. They are sized based on the assumption that they will be “onâ€

Agree 100%, Mike!

We are headed to Desire in two weeks... do you think it would do any good for us to write to Mia now and ask that this be rectified? We have a yahoo group of many people for that week who could write, as well.

Sure it would ! The more who write the better. Chances are you won't be writing to Mia though. As was reported elsewhere in the forum, she is no longer serving as the guest services director
(because of her pregnancy.) But just write to that same e-mail address and someone will get it.
