day of week arrival/departure

Postby dinkswithkinks » Fri Nov 16, 2018 3:12 pm

We are planning our first trip for April for about 7 nights or so. We are hoping for some experienced feedback as to arrival and departure days.
Are there days of the week that are better for arrival/departure?
We have dug through the forums and have learned a lot, but haven't run across any discussions on this.
We are a fairly new lifestyle couple, yet very adventurous. We are hoping to meet, hang, and play with like-minded couples! As soon as we have our dates we'll post in the appropriate thread. Looking forward to meeting you!

If you are planning at least a 7-day vacation you will experience all of the different theme nights and events, including the foam party (Friday afternoon) so it doesn't make much difference unless you want to plan your trip with a particular group (groups most often book Saturday to Saturday). April is generally a busy month and RM sells out most days. The lowest occupancy is usually Monday - Wednesday but those days still have good occupancy that time of year. Where it does make a difference is at the Cancun Airport. Saturdays are the busiest days, followed by Fridays and Sundays and depending upon your arrival/departure times the immigration lines upon arrival and check-in/security lines upon departure can be quite long.

We've found that traveling mid week, and arriving earlier in the morning makes the airport and check in much faster :)

We too try to fly mid-week if possible. Flights are usually less costly and customs is not as crowded. 3 or 4 trips ago we arrived on a Saturday in late April and the terminal was so packed our plane did not even have a gate. We off-loaded and took a bus to get to the terminal. Almost 2 hours to get through customs, never again. Would also recommend USA Transfers for your trip to and from the resort. We have used several companies over the years and for the price they are the best.

This has been our experience as well. We like to arrive and/or depart on Monday's or Thursday's. We are still of an age where we have young children so getting away for 7 days is difficult for us. We have found that heading home on the Mondays after the craziness of the weekend seems to work the best. The airport isn't as busy as it is on the weekends.

We're too are flying in and out on weekdays to avoid the lines.

We arrive in Cancun in the evenings due to the distance and time zone, then instead of staying at Desire the first night, we spend one cheep night at the Marriott Airport Cancun and then arrive fresh in the morning at Desire. The Marriott will pick you up at the airport at no charge, then use USA Transfer to take you to Desire from Marriott, then back to the airport when needed.

We booked a early flight in on Tuesday, and a late flight out on the following Tuesday for our first trip. Figured we have a chance to acclimate a few days before the Party Heats up to the weekend. Then have some mellow time before we leave.

Thank you all for the great intel! We found a flight that will put us there fairly early in the morning so we will not miss out on paying for a first day we will barely use. However, we are finding that flights leaving out of CUN for us are more convenient departing early. With this in mind, is it feasible to stay late into the night on our last day and check into the Airport Marriott the night before our early departure for a couple hours of rest? How late will Desire let you hang out on your last day?
Oh these next few months of anticipation may kill us!

This is exactly what we had planned to do for our October trip. We were going to stay until after the afternoon hot tub session then head out, which would've been fine. How it actually turned out is we said, why not just extend for a night and not have to pack lol. We paid the full rate for the extra night but it was worth it.

We will be arriving the day before our vaca starts in April so we can get to the resort early on our first day and enjoy the whole day. Haven't decided where we are staying that first night yet though...debating on the Marriott because it's close to the airport and they have a shuttle that picks you up, BUT, it's not on the beach and there are places that are also close to the airport but ARE on the beach, just not sure about airport transfer/shuttle. Anyone have any suggestions of places to stay that are on the beach, but are also affordable (Marriott is less than $100/night), and would provide shuttle service? Thanks!
