How's DRM after the pool changes?

We've made our last few visits to Pearl so we haven't been to DRM since the pool remodel. Can anyone make comparisons to what it was like prior?

The huge pool at Pearl is absolutely beautiful... but it can come at a cost of the overall "vibe" or perhaps it's an asset if you love the quiet end. How does the now even smaller pool affect socializing? Does anyone miss the drink pedestals?

We assume the swim up bar is a great new feature.. does it stay crowded in front of it like the bars in both hot tubs at Pearl/DRM? And judging from the configuration we doubt it is ever shaded from the sun in summer months?

From looking at the photos on google maps (there's a COMPLETE walk-through of the resort, in case you didn't know) there seem to be lots more chairs and beds surrounding the pool than before. Or does it just seem that way because the area along the end of pool is now a bar and those chairs got pushed out?

Does pool volleyball still happen even with the shorter pool and the bar on the south end?

What else are we missing from 5 years ago?

We have been to RM many times both before and after the construction of the swim-up bar. We thought it was a great addition. It is in fact quite popular and people do congregate in front of it. It is completely shaded by the roof overhang and the expanded Tentazione restaurant, which was also remodeled. Another nice feature is the new "dry" bar on the restaurant side of the pool bar. Quite a few bar stools and also some adjacent bar/high tables. The pool deck was also expanded, and there are considerably more lounge chairs and beds around the pool. The pool appears to be about the same size as before. The old pool had that very shallow end which is now the same depth as the rest of the pool. Pool volleyball games still take place on a daily basis.

If you haven't been to RM since the swim-up bar was constructed, the other changes you haven't seen would be the remodeling of the Piacere restaurant, now known as Sahlo. We liked Piacere a little better, but do enjoy Sahlo and far prefer it to the Pearl restaurant at Desire Pearl. The outdoor lobby area is different with the addition of an enclosed area opposite the bar used for the time-share sales presentations and receptions. A small stage has been added for bands, and there are quite a few hightop tables and chairs throughout the outdoor lobby area in addition to the couches and beds. Still a great gathering spot and one of primary reasons for our preference for RM over Pearl. Nightclub was renovated several years ago as well.

Definitely added to the vibe of the resort....huge plus. :L
And...it added a much-needed escape for when the sun gets too intense.

Does music play at the pool pretty much all day? If so what time do they stop?

Yes...9am-11am or so is easy listening, thereafter things pick up a bit. Music ends around 4-5 pm as guests slowly head to the Jacuzzi.

We've only ever been to Pearl but are considering trying RM this fall. Is the pool heated at all like the activity end is at Pearl? That's one of the things we like about Pearl - the heated end of the pool....

Thanks....

Yes, the RM pool is heated.
