Timeshare/Sales Pitch

Postby NewToItAll » Fri Feb 01, 2019 10:34 pm

We are planning our first vacation to Desire in a few months. I
Keep reading about being put into mandatory meetings about timeshares and such. This is NOT something I want to be doing on my vacation. I’m going to relax and have fun. Is there a nice way to get out of this because I know for a fact I won’t purchase a timeshare or anything like that. It makes me a bit uncomfortable that we would be cornered into a meeting after spending the amount of money we have on this vacation already.
Advice??

Just tell them when you get there that you are not interested and they will understand. They might try a few times more but if you say no, that will be enough.

No fears. Once the people at the front desk know that you are clearly not interested, they won’t ‘bother’ you at all. The time share sales people don’t want to waste THEIR time with someone who’s clearly not interested but they will offer you freebies to attend the pitch. Just make it clear that you’d prefer not to hear the presentation. If you take the freebies, then you leave yourself open to their opportunity to sell you. I make it clear to them in a polite manner ever time and I’ve never had them ask more than once......and I sell cars for a living.....haha. Just go and ENJOY!

Be sure to be very clear, I mean don't even leave the tiniest glimmer of hope, tell them no means no, otherwise it will be...

On our first visit to Pearl years ago, the membership salesperson greeted us but actually told us the sales presentation probably wouldn't be worthwhile since we didn't even know if we were going to like it there or not. This is a story we have also heard from others. They do seem to take care not to overly pressure new visitors. Even after our first trip, we've never experienced anything I'd describe as high pressure. No usually is accepted the first time. We will actually listen to the pitch every other visit or so just to hear what they claim is coming (some of those things turn out to be true, like the Mansion, and some do not, like the planned resort in Playa Mujeres). If we are on a short visit, we do not want to spend our vacation time in a sales meeting, but usually you are talking about less than an hour of your time. If you want the freebies, do it. If you want to be left alone, say so. It won't be a big deal either way.

If you're willing to sit through the sales pitch, anything on the menu is negotiable. Spa treatments, massages, photo shoots, special dinners etc.

Not a free night thought. During one encounter, after about the 6th No, they finally asked "What would it take to get you to attend the presentation?* (for the 3rd time). I told them we would do it for a free night. The response, "Ok, here's your room key...".

We never go to timeshare sales pitches. Our vacations are too precious to deal with the interruption etc. Well never say never. We did attend the sales presentation at DRM and an interesting thing happened. Our salesman happened to be from our area (Southern California) and he was friends with and worked with my very close cousin. Small World....
