Rumour Mill BS

Diane and I returned from RM last night after another fantastic week. I had the opportunity to spend some time with Manuel Rios, the onsite GM and asked him about the information that is being passed on by the membership sales people.

He told me in no uncertain terms that there is NO current arrangement to purchase the property to the north of the resort. Not that the Original Group hasn't been trying for years, but the owners are not selling. There are also no plans regarding new villas at this time. He seemed genuinely upset that membership is using this as a sales tool.

I hope this puts these BS rumours to rest for a while.

Great info! I doubt it changes anything though. I've seen no evidence to indicate that those guys will do anything except try to make a sale using whatever tactics they feel like using. Doesn't seem like there is any oversight either so what incentive would they have to change, especially if they feel like their misinformation campaign comes out as a net positive).

Did you ask about the salespeople saying there will be a Desire DR?

That’s crappy of them to try to sell based on hearsay

I look at the membership sales people like I look at the used car sale man saying that that car was owned by a little old lady and only has 5000 miles on it. I take it with a large grain of salt.

Any more information about this? My wife and I began to research our next trip. We went to our usual site for booking and found that NO Oceanview rooms are available from now and as far as we could see into 2020. This is peculiar and concerning to us considering these rumours. The OP confirmed that Desire wasn't buying the land next door but didn't offer anything up about the tearing down an Oceanview building rumour.

Any information would be great!

Thanks.

I had a quick look on the forums Riviera Maya Room Availability Calendar which is directly tied in to the Desire booking engine and found Oceanview rooms available for Nov 24-30 and Dec 8-27 there may be more since it was just a quick look ;)

If you book thru the forum links, whatever is shown on the Riviera Maya Room Availability Calendar will be available to you for booking

Thank you for your reply.

We book all-inclusive through an airline because we're on the friends and family list and get a good discount. We went outside that one time due to booking late and it cost us $2000 more after factoring in flight and exchange. Therefore, we would rather stick with our method of booking.

Since you see Oceanview available on the resort website, I guess I'll keep checking our site hoping they add Oceanview.

Thank you!

Thru the forum links you could try the "package" (resort+air)
Book directly with Desire Riviera Maya
they offer direct flights via Air Canada, Air Transat, Interjet and WestJet - just a thought you should do a test and see how your prices compare .......

Thanks for the tip. We've checked that out in the past but nothing out there comes close to the discount we get.

Thank you!

We did check the Desire site out and the price for air/room combo was close to Orbitz BUT it would not tell us if the flight was United’s basic economy or economy so we passed. If it had been listed as economy, we would have used the link here to purchase the trip so the site would be supported.

It is definitely worth checking it out.

Mike - FYI once it shows you the basic quote if you go to edit the dates it will show you some tabs at the bottom with Airline and you can select the class of service and modify the quote ;)
