July 2018 trip thoughts 3rd time at RM 3rd year in row

Postby jj555 » Thu Jul 26, 2018 9:18 am

Cheers everyone.
This is for middle part of july 2018.

Forgive me if no cohesive format. background is 3rd trip late 30's early 40's couple.
Staff is amazing still and nice to see continuity there.
Many, Africa, pool / beach staff its nice to see familiar faces.

This year the crowd was more clothed. Of the 3 years in a row this year was the least nude. Im ok with that and got a bit shy myself but my wife didnt bring any bottoms and was complaining that not everyone was naked lol.

They should do the foam party every day or perhaps just randomly once in a while roll it ..out then have set times as well. Who knows lol. Surely foam isnt that expensive. And they dont need to do it for so long. This year they had the foam going for what seemed like an eternity and everyone was over it. Only neeed like 20 mins of foam not hour straight. Seems to me more frequency and short would be way to go. Id be willing to pay a $3 a day foam surcharge to up the frequency.

Same for group massage. I understand they are twice a week which is a step in right direction.

Im afraid we will have to bring our own alcohol next time. Kinda silly. Their alcohol I dont know...we never seemed to get even a buzz. Took shots galore.

The seaweed and the inability to spend quality time meant we socialized more and were at pool all day. So an unintended consequence that was nice and go with what seems to be a common statement on these threads is that each trip is different. Its the same place but interesting how the people you meet and talk to and things like the seaweed or etc make each trip different. We had never seen the seaweed like that and this year that was a bit of a debby downer. Not anyones fault and part of nature lets hope that it will wash away and return to its state before.

I know im mentioning the negative stuff but desire is a wonderful place. The jacuzzi, the dance club, the people ( everyone is always making an effort to be nice maybe its because they want to bone your wife? Lol) the food, the pool, staff, atmosphere, sun beach, sex positive open format. This is what sets desire rm to its own place. These are all aimple things but desire has this. I appreciate that. Having spent time at pearl I can say that even more that I prefer rm.
Some of the old schoolers at desire seem to think hedo might be more intense and hardcore they speak quite fondly of it. i dont know ..for now im good with desire and will be there possibly in 2019. That med desire cruise 2020 looks strong.

One last beef.

There should be a moratorium on playing pitbull at desire. If i wasnt trying to keep my desire trips somewhat low key I might start a go fund me page to put a stop to it. It takes me until at least august to get the pit bull out of my head. So to answer your question yes I still have the pitbull songs stuck.help me.

JJ555 - ditto's on the pit bull songs. We are a Pearl couple and between the pool and the club 80% songs played were pit bull. The last time we were their-in May, they did play C&W at the pool one afternoon. That was very welcomed!

Yikes. Reading abut all the Pit bull . . . First negative thing I've heard. That dude's "music" is a pretty big turnoff for both of us. I hope that's calmed down by November or that's going to cut into the sexiness for us quite a bit.

It is probably more funny than anything. They are trying. This year at the dance club they had some decent edm techno.. whatever you want to call it.
On latin night they had musicians in the club.

Pitbull is that default go to and we only hear it at desire so its become sorta a running joke then just came back and its stuck in head still..

So it doesnt take away from the sexiness but when you hear same song 3-4 times in a short period it gets stuck. Someone at desire in the music side of things REALLY loves them some pitbull. Probably the more logical simple explanation is many of the pitbull songs are the rah rah type where trying to get some livelyness going..pitbull has s bit of that peppy going on..still though as principal rooney says....9 times..NINE

I agree, I'd like to see it every day except I think it really has little to do with foam. Each day could be a different thing, basically one hour of "let's get the crowd ramped up just before jacuzzi time". My observation is that what they are good at doing on that particular day compared to all the others is to cultivate a vibe of social interactivity with the crowd, sort of a mini viral effect. The foam facilitates this, the different music does this (the biggest factor if you ask me, people really seem to respond to this whether they realize it or not) running around with shots dispensers and so forth doesn't hurt either. The games and contests, while fun and definitely have their place, do not do this - they tend to make people stand and watch, not interact with each other. The key is to get people intermingling, my theory is that this is the hardest part of this thing in general, not everyone are extroverts and it takes some of that to bring people out of their shells so to speak. This is why sometimes these things seem to happen naturally if the right crowd is there, but if the "instigators" are not there for a trip then it becomes more serene even though I think generally speaking the crowd is going to be receptive, just need a spark.

There are any number of approaches for this that would work but it just comes down to getting the crowd interacting. This is the key. Put the people in a position to socialize in such a way and the rest will take care of itself. We met the most number of people by casual interactions in the pool during the foam party (even after the foam dissipated) than any other time at Desire. It really helps with people randomly interacting with other people without feeling intrusive. Many times in the pool if there are 4-6 people in a group talking there is a "don't go intrude, that seems rude" thing - that is the social construct we've all experienced in the normal world and has to be overcome in this sort of setting. It doesn't matter that the reality may be that the group would be welcoming, many won't ever insert themselves into that situation because its uncomfortable therefore the number of interactions diminish. This is clearly in the domain of the entertainment staff (assuming that they want to cultivate such a thing).

Certainly at the last foam party the energy of all those interactions carried over into the jacuzzi session and beyond, that one hour of effort paid off collectively really for the rest of the day and night. Awesome.

Im afraid we will have to bring our own alcohol next time. Kinda silly. Their alcohol I dont know...we never seemed to get even a buzz. Took shots galore.

We were thinking this same thing too. We aren't really big drinkers, typically we'd do 2-3 shots of tequila straight off the bat (drinking medicinally I realize), get a good buzz (low tolerance is nice here), but never get hammered, never get a hangover etc..., just your good old social lubrication, I mean if the goal was to get wasted there are an infinite number of places to do that.

We've experienced a similar thing at Desire, always shots of Don Julio, so no mixology at work. Sometimes you get the good feeling, other times seemingly nothing and other times straight to that doped up feeling that isn't really all that fun. Very odd, never have had that problem drinking Patron or Espolon or whatever elsewhere. On our recent non Desire trip, we did this exact thing for 5 straight days, once for the day party and again for the night party, all with complete consistency and results. I have no idea why that would be different at Desire but figured, as silly as it sounds why not take our own next time. If the same thing happens we'll know its not the booze itself. If it doesn't then easy enough to take our own, no big deal.

The seaweed and the inability to spend quality time meant we socialized more and were at pool all day.

Hmmm, I'm actually seeing some benefits of the seaweed.

Yeah, can definitely relate to the PPSD (Post Pitbull Stress Disorder). I have my own ideas on how to address that issue as well but its music, there are gonna be a million different wildly varying opinions on that.

I think there is something to be said for "anticipation". If a foam-like party were to happen everyday, I think it might be a little too much. Let's face it, the staff struggle to get people off their loungers and participating as it is. Yeah, it might be that the things they are urging them to do aren't as fun as the foam party but I still think there is a general tendency for people to want to just chill. If it happened every day, I fear people would have to start choosing which of the pool-party events they wanted to go to, which would dilute the participation, which would make things awkward. I think maybe twice a week would be a good compromise and would cover more people who don't stay a full week.

This last trip was the first time we had a problem with the Don Julio. Previously, we have really enjoyed the shots of the reposado for its smoothness and flavor. Started getting it at home because of this. Last trip, we extolled the virtues of it to people who proclaimed they didn't like tequila shots. We convinced them to try DJ and set up a round. It was awful! Lost face with the friends and had to choke down rot gut. I complained to the bar tender and he just shrugged. Really disappointing.

Those are some good points, the anticipation part is something I hadn't fully considered but that's definitely a thing. The twice a week thing would be good too, it took until our 4th trip to finally even get to do a foam party, merely due to scheduling.

The drinks felt very watered down or ineffective for us too. Sucks to pay that much for all inclusive and have to bring your own drinks. The alcohol we brought was much more effective.

It was great meeting you both there. Hopefully, we'll run into you again next year if we get to go again.

here is what I noticed with the alcohol..... Pay attention on how they serve you....they have all the premium stuff on display on the back shelf but never use them unless you specifically ask! When at the pool bar ask about the premium tequila he keeps in the small bar fridge. If not they use the generic Mexican stuff for everything. They know your looking at everyone else besides watching him make your drink...lol..

For us, we're getting shots of Don Julio, or at least that is the bottle its poured from, but it doesn't seem like the same effect as at home. But this could always be written off to other factors as well. This time, though, it will be easy to say for sure as we are going to take some of our own tequila for the room, easy comparison then.

Not saying I think watered down drinks are good but the up side is you can drink for 12+ hours :D Wife is not a huge booze fan and can keep going for the day/nite! I do get it if you're drinking shots of whatever your favorite is it will not taste the same :x

I would prefer to know exactly what I'm drinking because no one can manage that better than me. If it's consistent then I know exactly how much I can/should drink. Works perfectly everywhere except Desire (again, not making any assumptions on reasons but that is definitely the experience I've had). In actuality, if the goal is to get to a certain buzz level and maintain from there, the uncertainty of consumption vs effect makes it so that I would tend to drink more, not less, chasing something that seems to be elusive rather than just knowing - yep, 3 shots I'm good. Otherwise as time and drinks go on, generally when asking myself "Do I need another drink" while drinking, the answer is going to be ever trending towards yes. Much easier to objectively say "No, I had my 3 I'm good".

Not saying I think watered down drinks are good but the up side is you can drink for 12+ hours :D Wife is not a huge booze fan and can keep going for the day/nite!

That would be something if the goal was to say "I drank for 12 hours" but generally that's not really the goal. I could also do the same by not drinking, or drinking water or managing it in other sort of ways. I mean, there's nothing to stop someone from watering down their drinks themselves if they so choose, I don't really see an upside other than from the resort's point of view if they were to do such a thing intentionally - not saying that they are - but the benefits to them would be money savings and perhaps less of a chance of having to wheel someone back to their room because they drank too much. Still I'd rather leave that up to the individuals to decide for themselves.

As for the taste, I really don't care, it's a shot, it just has to be good enough. For me it's mainly about effect, not savoring the flavor (although I do actually like the "flavor" of some tequilas).
