Trip report- March 28-April 4, 2021

We got back from paradise yesterday evening. Sitting here at work in clothes is just the worst feeling ever!

Background: Members, almost 51 (M) and 52 (F)- not lifestyle, but love exhibitionism and being a non creepy voyeurs and just meeting friendly, fun people while being naked. Our 4th visit. Garden room 1211, if it matters (it was lovely and a great location for us. Steps to the pool, hot tub and lobby bar with a lovely big open shower).

Travel direct out of STL. Literally no one in customs and we were the first one in our line. Bags came quickly and USA Transfer was at the ready with one of their 12 SUV's (we asked how many they have- the SUV's serve only Desire's and Temptation apparently- you're daily bit of useless trivia is now satisfied).

I won't give details on the daily, as it was much the same: wake slowly and hit the steam room around 9am. A lovely buffet breakfast each morning (didn't opt for room service as we like the options too much) and then hit the day beds (far side of pool nearest beach, 3 beds in from bar- lots of good shade for the vampire partner of mine). We'd have a lovely meal in the bed, typically from the offering outside. One day it was paella (AMAZING), other days, grilled chicken or burgers, seafood day, tacos / burritos, etc. Or we'd just order whatever the heck we wanted (shrimp pizza folks- it's good!).

After that, we'd either go get a beach bed and have some fun or we'd walk to CC's bar and let her dazzle us with her fabulous cocktail making abilities. The new bar is really nice. There are 6 swings at the bar and it's a lot of fun to sit there and sip a cocktail and swing / chat / enjoy. CC is as lovely as always.

Then hot tub time. I think we got in once. It was REALLY crowded each afternoon. Like, can't move crowded. Not that that bothers us, but it just didn't look appealing. We would grab a bed and enjoy showing off (more on that in a minute), or when they weren't available, we'd sit at the bar and chat with friends. Afterwards, get cleaned up for dinner (we did Sahlo once, Suki twice, member dinner once and buffet the rest). While you don't go to an all-inclusive expecting good food (and we are foodies), the food here is really good. Steaks are probably the weakest of anything 'high ticket', but everything else is just solidly good (in our opinion).

The nightly entertainment is always a blast and then the disco was so fun. Getting out there with barely anything on, jumping around and shaking booties- what fun! The dance floor was always crowded and we never lasted well into the evening, choosing to retire to the hot tub beds for additional play time. And seriously, I don't know why a late night BLT is so good, but it should be it's own food group at Desire.

So that was our day and it worked perfectly for us. Of course everyone is different, but can positively say this was the best vacation we've ever had.

A few thoughts:
1. The service remains impeccable. The staff cannot do enough, quickly enough to please. We went to the pool bar upon arrival and Luis the bartender saw me, came right over and said hello 'name' and fist bumped and brought us our favorite drinks. That blows me away. Jussif in Sahlo does the same thing with drinks / food. As does Mario, Gustavo....pick a name and they nail it.
2. We saw progress on the land next door and we heard rumors (we did not take the sales pitch this time as we are happy with what he have for now). There is now a chain link fence running from the end of Desire over to the end of the other property. Apparently once they get going there will be new building / movement of some amenities, etc. and will take 8 months to complete. But the fence was installed while we were there.
3. I'm the nicest guy you'll ever meet (honest). Two things got up my crawl this trip and it has nothing to do with Desire. It's etiquette and it's lacking. No one was untoward or anything like that. That's never an issue. However, how rude is it to see people come up to the tub, go right to a bed, put a hat on it (or something), go over to the tub and never use the bed, or don't do so for over an hour / two? For those that like to actually use the bed, isn't that what the storage areas are for? I'd really love a sign that as you come up the stairs stating something like this. Came up many times and the beds were claimed and literally no one on them.
3a- Related- we're all there to party and have fun. Do we really need someone bringing their speaker to the hot tub and blasting music, and then have a group (they were together) sing along? Basically...we're gonna do this and you're gonna have to listen to us whether you want to or not. Look, I'm 50. I don't need to get drunk and have karaoke in the tub and subject others to music they may not like to have fun, but you do you. It's loud enough up there with all the folks chatting and having fun- that seems more Temptation-like than Desire, am I wrong? And again, I'm not bashing anyone for having fun- just do so where I don't have to be subjected to your idea of fun. And yes, these folks were first timers, were much younger, blah blah blah old guy rant over
4. Was nice to see many people tipping the staff often and generously.
5. Seemed to be many less beach daybeds. Maybe a few more near the pool, but less along the villas. But never an issue to get one.
6. For those wondering- seaweed wasn't bad. They still rake and bag for 8 hours a day though. What a job. Part of the amazing service.
7. Heard it was at 80% capacity- it seemed very crowded. Was nice to see.
8. Covid test is quick and simple. There's a room not far off the lobby bar. You'll need your passport and a mask to enter. Process takes 5 min tops and we had results in 30 minutes emailed to us. They provide you a copy at checkout to show at the airport. Did not hear of anyone testing positive while we were there.
9. Foam party- what fun! So glad we were there on a Friday to enjoy.

Hope this helps anyone with any questions. Glad to answer anything I may have missed.

Great trip report about current conditions. Glad to hear the staff are enjoying guest generosity of tips as they lost a number of months of work this last year.

Can’t wait to get back in October and had to cancel our April trip. Not bringing our own music though. Haha!

Completely agree about the lost work / wages / tips. Was really great to see and we did our part every chance we got.

Bring all the music like we did- loved playing it in the room!!! :-)

Have a great trip. I think we're about to book for 5-6 nights in July. Addictive place.

Is it customary to tip in U.S. dollars? First time trip coming up I September. Also, is everyone English speaking?

Thank you!

What a great trip report. We will be there for 4th of July, cannot wait.

Most folks tip in US dollars, at least from what we have seen at both resorts in the past five years. And yes, everyone (for the most part) speaks excellent English.

Tipping in Pesos is easiest for resort staff to use locally and not have to get US money exchanged into Pesos.

Canadians will have to get our money exchanged either way so we just go straight to Pesos. For US residents tipping in their own currency is easiest for them.

Yes it is easier for tipped staff members to use if you tip with pesos but we have found that most people do not take the currency conversion in account when tipping in pesos, The conveson rate today is 20.21 pesos for $1.00 US. We have seen many people put a 20 pesos note out thinking that they are giveing a $20.00 tip but are really only leaving a $1.00. After talking to many staff members they are happy with any tip that they receive but like USD more even if they have to excange it to pesos. So we always tip in USD.

Thanks for the awesome trip report! Hubby and I are going for our first time this year! Literally cannot wait!

Question about people "reserving" outdoor beds with hats or towels...I got kind of stressed reading about this because where I live, we have very nice community pools but this kind of thing happens a lot and it gets tense between people sometimes.

So what is the etiquette in DMR? I am looking to have fun and be relaxed and certainly have NO intention of having conflict with a single person -- but I'd like to enjoy the beds too. Are people cool with sharing if they aren't actively using the bed?

That's a good question. To try to figure out who's hat is on the bed could be difficult in a full hot tub. We too, aren't confrontational so we just bitch about this situation to each other and then go on about our day. Out of 7 days, it was an issue twice, and while we wanted to do things on the bed, we just adjusted and had a drink and chatted (and truly, no beds were in use or became open each time). I suppose you could neatly put things on the end table between beds, go about your business and clean up and leave. They're no ones bed to claim, so not sure if anyone would be mad / upset. Wish I had a better answer. Hopefully others have suggestions.

To clarify, the pool/beach beds are assigned by Danny. He does a great job of taking care of guests and tries to get you what you want. We were just there and it was pretty packed around the pool, so you definitely will want to check with him around 10-11am each morning to see if there are cancellations by the Premiere members, if everything was already reserved when you arrive. The hot tub beds are first come, first served, but the etiquette is to only use the beds for "fun" and then to free them up for others to use. There are storage cubbies to place your belongings in while you are hanging out in the hot tub, so there isn't a need to place your belongings on a bed. Hope this helps! You guys are going to love it there!

We just got back. Airport arrival was a breeze in the Southwest terminal. Departure was chaotic in the Delta terminal.

When we checked in at DRM, they told us we could take our mask off and keep it off for the entire stay (except for the required covid test). Other than staff wearing masks, it was like no pandemic at all. No masks among guests, and no distancing at all.

I heard that if you want a pool bed you have to reserve it in the am but I also heard that the beds are mostly for members, if your not a member then you get a chair, is this true or are the chair guys just looking for a tip and if so, what is a good tip? you tip per day or for the whole trip :?: :?: :?:

Excellent report. And yes, don’t the one who brings a Bluetooth speaker and makes everyone else listen to your playlist. From my previous trips to Desire, one thing I did appreciate is the laid back attitude and everyone playing nice.
