very bad situation at Desire

:( Before I say anything let me first say I am not trying to offend anyone but I
am sure some of what I will say is going to offend someone and I am sorry for
that but I must get this off my chest. Desire has created a division of the
classes, The Haves and The Have Nots, and it really sucks. We just returned
from Desire last night and experienced this first hand. We arrived at Desire on
June 6th at 7am. After checking in , our room was not ready which we fully
expected and had our pool bag packed and went straight to the pool and found
some open pool chairs. The towel/pool guy Daniel, a very nice guy just doing his
job, came running over to tell us the chairs were taken. Ok, so I moved our
stuff to the next set of open chairs only to have him tell us they were also
taken. OK again,I moved to the next set of open chairs only to have him explain
that all of the chairs anywhere around the pool were taken/reserved. Wow was I
surpised to find out the the entire section along the beach side of the pool are
for the exclsive use of the Special people also known as the "Premier Guest".
But wait this gets better, but since The Premier Guest do not like those chairs
they can reserve any of the other chairs they want the night before for the next
day ,not Just the Premier Special chairs. But we being from the lower class
folks are not allowed to use the Premier chairs even though the Primier chairs
sit empty all day and the Premier guest are taking up a large portion of the
common folks chairs and most, if not all, of the unbrellas. But wait it gets
better as a lower class guest you have to get up at 6am go to the towel shack
and get in line , or get into a big argument with the ass hole who does not
understand common courtesy and walks up last but walks in front of you at 7am
because you cant sign up for the chairs, that the special people don't have
already, untill 7am. Oh Yes it gets even better the beach area by the pool is
now posted " Premier Guest only" . There are now 6 beach beds by the pool , Not
the ones in front of the Premier rooms which are also reserved for the special
people, and several beach chairs that are reservered for the Premier Guest only.
While we were there we only saw two couples use any of this area and even though
the resort was sold out and packed with people the common folks who could not
find a place to sit were not allowed to use the open and never used pool and or
beach beds and chairs. Well having got that off my chest, good luck with the
chairs and have a great time getting up at 6am to get a pool chair while your on
vacation. I hope you like the new chair system better than we did, BobbyxSandy

This system is clearly not working.
Management need to sort this out pronto.

We agree completely.

The "premier-guests" versus the "non-premier-guests" and the "repeat-guests-who-tip-well-and-get-special-treatment" versus the "first-time-guests-who-think-everyone-is-treated-the-same" situation is getting worse and worse; to the extent that we are really questioning whether or not we want to go back to Desire.

It's sad.

We definitely were incredibly frustrated with the exact situation you describe when we were there May 18-23. Went into some detail about it in our trip report on this board. Hope someone there cares enough to change it. We may not pay the "big bucks" that the Premier members do, but to us, the cost of a Desire vacation is a big chunk of our budget. It's not exactly a cheapo little motel, even for the least expensive rooms. Who wants to spend their hard-earned money only to feel like a lower-class person who has to sit on the bare concrete while the "reserved" chairs sit empty?

While the highly charged sexual atmosphere is a big draw, it doesn't make up for the lack of chairs and umbrellas by the pool. For now, we will seek other all-inclusive adults only resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean until the management can figure out how to make this situation better at Desire.

We will not travel to Desire without bringing our own umbrella. We also have little beach chairs. Should we also pack them? They probably need to bite the bullet and get a decent size pool with tons of room for chairs and umbrellas. All we require is a beach lounger and umbrella, be it on the beach or by the pool. Management needs to get it that most guests need to have shelter from the sun. We love the place, but agree that they are so behind the other resorts in this respect. Hey there Desire management, love you guys, but is this asking too much???

I am very much surprised that the "defenders of Desire" have not stepped forward. The above mentioned "class" problem along with about 5 other problems is why I refuse to visit this resort again until some serious changes are made for the benefit of us "common" folk.

We will be there in a couple of weeks. Have been going for years....and if this crap is NOT fixed before we get there we will never come back.

While there is something wonderful about visiting a foreign country the sad truth is that once they have your money....they don't give a hoot (not my first choice of words) about you.....and the only option you have is.....no option at all.

Appx what % of Desire guests are "Premier"

Does anyone know approximately what percentage of Desire guests are Premier Members??? I would imagine that the percentage is extremely low (like 2-3% maybe????).

Desire has made a very bad choice with the implementation of this new policy. We will be there 9/25-10/2, after doing Desire in '08 and Hedo III in '09 (we were booked at Desire but changed to Hedo when they announced the pool would be shut down for 5 of our 7 days for resurfacing).

I can say right now that if this pool thing causes us any stress, we will not return to Desire until the problem is corrected.

I will give a full trip report after this reply. Sorry we missed you and Sandy and we got your little gift from Peter and THANK YOU for it As far as beach chairs i TOTALLY agree with you and what you said. It sucked after traveling the day before and getting there and then partying all night to have to get up at an ungodly hour and wait in line. your a more relaxed man then me i must say cause i would have opened a very large can of whoop ass on the guy who cut line. Now there seems to be a very large problem w seating and i think there are trying to work that out since they remove a tree and a buck of HEALTHY buses by the restaurant pool area and i think they are going to add more beds like the big gazeboo you always sit at there w more shade, which also needs to be added

other then that great trip had

last year we sat in a bed marked "premier guest only" (unintentionally)...the beach guy said we couldnt sit there and I told him when someone wants to use it, we'll move. no one came and no one bothered us after that. of course, we are from NY and we dont take this shit lightly.
let them throw you out. this better be rectified and quick.

What an absolute bummer... We're trying to decide within the next week where we're going during March '11. We thought we were set on being first-timers at Desire.

Now we're not so sure.

Just...... damn.
