Wife and I went to Desire Riviera Maya for 7 days / 6 nights as first-timers. We’re not in the lifestyle and this was also our first time at any sort of clothing optional resort. We chose Desire RM because we wanted to see how big a difference there was between “adults-only” and “clothing optional” as well as seeing just how sexually adventurous we are. There’s one thing to talk and fantasize, and there’s another thing to do it. We did not join any chat groups or websites prior to going. We listened to 1 podcast and then decided we didn’t want to listen to anymore and would find out for ourselves.

Our point(s) of comparison for this trip are Secrets and Sandals resorts around the Caribbean and Mexico. As a last point of note we’re in our 30s.

Arrival and Day 1

We’ve been to Cancun before so we knew to keep things moving through customs, baggage claim, and the gauntlet that is the timeshare/taxi salespeople. We opted to go first class on the flight and private transfer from the airport to the resort, and that made an enormous difference. We were also able to pack where we only had carry on items, so no waiting at baggage claim. From the plane to the transfer was 10 minutes. Getting to Desire RM was easy and upon arrival we thought…this is a lot smaller than we’re used to (more on that later).

We knew this was a different kind of party the second we walked in. Check-in was easy and we opted to upgrade to the Ocean View (good call). The next person we talked to was our concierge/initial salesperson who kept saying, “You’re going to have a f**king amazing time and it’s going to be f**king great!” This is the first and only time that an employee of the resort we’re staying at used any variation of “f**k” while we checked in. Again, fun times but a big difference to get used to.

We agreed to do the sales presentation but pushed it out to our 4th day (another good call) and got the erotic ritual massage (booked on our 5th day) in exchange for our agreement to hear the presentation.

After all this we finally walk through the doors and SEE TITTIES AND DICKS!!! The first time it was literally that shocking, but after about an hour (and some lunch) it wasn’t a deal for us at all. In fact, we soon joined the clothes-free crew.
As for the room it was solid. Good. Not offensive. Against our comparison resorts the room was much older and less appointed than the other resorts, but the room was not bad in any way. Once we settled into the room we went to the hot tub to have a debrief. The day had been a shock to our system, but we were very pleased to have made the decision to come to Desire. It was also the first time we’ve had a heart-to-heart while hearing moans and sex right next to us. Relationship strengthening at its best!

We had an earlier dinner and then…we crashed. What was supposed to be a power nap turned into us not waking up at 1 AM. We did walk to the nightclub and playroom, but nobody was there. We called it a night.

Days 2-3

Learning the language
Lifestyle, swinger, soft swap, hard swap, poly, same room, different room, hall pass, pineapples, SDC, C4P, SLS, black rings, bulls, and the list goes on. By the end of the trip we had picked up a brand new language.
Our conversations usually followed this order:
1. Introduce names
2. Where are you from?
3. You’re not swingers?
4. How did you find this place?
What became clear very early is that conversation and personality was the currency at Desire RM. Physical appearance was a distant third to those two when it came to having a good time. The people that we met were amazing! We met people from all over the world (France, Netherlands, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, UK, USA) and picked up on a few other things.

Crushes Exist At Desire RM
We could sense who was interested in us, but the interest lasted about the length of the conversation. If the other couple did not see a path to sex (and we decided we were only going to play within ourselves for this trip) they moved on politely. We appreciated the directness and understood the situation. If you only have 3 days and you’ve flown from France you’re trying to make the most of your time. We get it 100%.

General Kindness
The nature and size of the resort leads to almost everyone wanting to talk to each other. This is the opposite of what we find in our daily lives. There aren’t many random conversations at the grocery store. At Desire there was always a “Hello” when walking past someone. If you sat down at the bar there was always a conversation. This also leads into the next point.

The Staff and Playmakers Are One-Of-A-Kind!
Nowhere in the world have we found a place where the staff fits, and enhances, the resort like the Playmakers and Staff at Desire. From volleyball to the beach to the pool to the shows to the service at the restaurants and everything else in between, the staff was amazing! Their ability to create an environment that encourages people to participate and enhances the sexy/sensual vibe of the resort is something we haven’t seen anywhere else.

People Have FUN! But it is ok to go at your own pace
The shows at night were great, but the disco is where people let loose. There’s nothing like seeing a guy who looks like your accountant spanking his wife on the stripper pole. There is no need to take yourself too seriously at Desire, it’s truly all about fun. People can do and be who they want without concern of someone shaming them. We primarily took it all in from the sidelines for the first few days, and never felt pressured to move any faster than we wanted.

Days 4-5

Sales Presentation
You guys must REALLY love Desire for what they’re trying to charge for those new suites. I mean REALLY REALLY love it. We love sex more than most. We had a great time and will more than likely be back, but there was no way we were even considering buying into the new rooms. The presentation overall was not that bad. It took about 2 hours and we ended up not buying because we weren’t sure about consistently coming back enough to justify the nights they wanted us to buy. What we did like was you know how it ends versus some other sales presentations it goes on forever and ever, with no way to really get out of it.

Erotic Ritual Massage
We selected the option for two women. This was the first time we had any person other than ourselves touch us sexually since before we were dating (~10 years) and it was amazing! It is not a massage, the only tension that’s being released is sexual. It’s a rub down and once you’re close to cumming they take off your blindfold, take you over to your wife/partner, have her suck your dick while you rub her pussy, then have sex with her while they’re pushing your hips and rubbing on you. We’re glad we did it on our first trip as it really got us into the spirit of Desire, but also don’t feel the need to rush and do it again.

Sex In Public
Surprise! We had sex. Lots of it. But in these reviews the main places people want to hear about are the Hot Tub, Playroom, and Beach. We didn’t have sex at the hot tub. It seemed just a little too crowded each time we went up there. We did decide to go into the Playroom one night and ended up having multiple other couples having sex around us. Does this count as an orgy? Either way, it was different than either one of us expected as we were kind of aware of the other couples…but not really. Only after we finished did we grasp that other people were there. The best by far was the sex in the beach cabanas. 10/10 would recommend! The sounds of the beach, the breeze, it was the best. After the first hour or so on Day 1 we decided to really see what the resort had to offer and we were determined to go home without questions.

Days 6-7

The Foam Party
The Foam Party was a lot of fun, but similar to the Erotic Ritual Massage we’re glad we did it but don’t have to rush to do it again.

Check Out
Check out was simple and easy. We were a little concerned that we’d get hit with a big bill because we had to use to gift shop a few times (the mosquitos have enormous appetites) and the prices were in line with a place that knew you couldn’t go anywhere else and Amazon Prime wasn’t shipping there. It wasn’t that bad and we were off to our flight back to reality.

Summary
The food was above average for an all-inclusive. The room was nice as mentioned before. For the amount paid you can absolutely stay in a “nicer” resort with more amenities. You could stay at a resort with a nicer, larger and more usable beach. But you will not find the Playmakers and Staff anywhere else. You will not find a more rapidly forming community anywhere else. The sex almost became secondary (almost) after talking to a few people. When people are naked there’s nowhere to hide. You can’t hide behind your car, your neighborhood, your house, your clothes, or anything else. You are who you are and your personality means way more.

We will definitely be returning.
