Labor day trip to DRM

We went to RM for our annual labor day vacation, planned for 9 days. Some things have changed but some things never change; like how superb the staff is. Due to flight delays we got there a little late on Thursday. We were pretty tired so we decided to have dinner on the patio area outside of our beach front room, (building 25). We were enjoying our dinner when a couple walked by and let us know that we were (literally) surrounded by a family of racoons. Usually they don’t bother us but in this case one of the younger ones jumped up on Nina scratching her a bit. We had finished our main courses so we thought this was a good time to go inside. So I grabbed the cheesecake dessert and headed for the door. I tapped my bracelet. The door buzzed but the handle didn’t open it. I tried it again twice more with the same result, no joy. Frank tried it and it didn’t work for him either. So you can picture the predicament. We were standing there completely naked, holding a plate of cheesecake, thinking “what the heck do we do know”. Luckily, in a few minutes one of the room service waiters walked by and we flagged him down and he called security, which in turn called maintenance. The chap from maintenance had to replace the entire door handle mechanical portion to get us back in. We took that as a sign and turned in early. The next day was wonderful. We got a bed by the pool and met many of the guests, including a few friends of us who we knew would be there. Weather was delightful with sunny skies and low humidity. Bella, Candice and the rest of the playmakers seemed much better coordinated than the staff at Pearl on our last visit. The food at RM is very good and there wasn’t any problems getting reservations. On sad part is that they can no longer have a Friday night barbeque on the beach. We also attended the members dinner. The food was quite good but we would have preferred it to the way they used to sit you with other random couples to get people to meet. The beach was usable and the seaweed not much of an issue. The crowd that week seemed a little older than usual for RM. There were still some folks who spent their time making their tic tok, Instagram, or whatever videos. If that is the way the want to use their vacation time, well that’s their choice. We didn’t go to the shows as we wouldn’t get anything out of them. Instead we headed directly to hot tub which was moderately crowded in the evenings. All was well until Saturday when things took a tragic turn. I got a text that my mother had a massive stroke. We cut things short and flew directly from Cancun to Miami and were at her bedside when she passed. It was very nice to see how many of the friends we met at Desire over the years expressed their condolences.

THank you so much, that means a great deal to us. We wanted to come and find you folks but then we got that text message that no one ever wants to get. PM or Meail us since we are planning our 2027 dates right now and maybe we can be there when you two are. thanks
